Making a manual machine for bending reinforcement with your own hands

Products that work in a horizontal plane are chosen as a handy machine. The reinforcement is secured between the supporting element and a fixed metal pin. A rotating unit with a bending pin and an extended lever is placed on it. During operation, the rod bends around the central pin towards the desired angle. This bending machine is suitable for rebar with a diameter of up to 14 mm.

It will require a frame - a 12 mm or 14 mm channel, at least one meter long. It is welded to two metal pipes, which are driven into the ground. To create a stop, two corners are welded to the top flange of such a channel. The lever is made of pipes welded at an angle of 90 degrees. To increase the force on the lever, put on an extension cord of at least 1.2 meters.

A corner is welded to the upper part of the lever, due to which the end of the reinforcement will be fixed during bending. It is necessary to ensure that the corner is located on the same level with the top flange of the main channel.

The strength of the unit should be three times greater than the force for bending the products, especially if the reinforcement is needed for large construction projects. In addition to the drawing, the following tools are prepared:

  • grinder and a set of cutting and grinding discs;
  • electric drill with steel drills for quick cutting;
  • electrodes and welding installation;
  • mechanic's kit, including a hammer, pliers, punch, sledgehammer and chisel;
  • vice for fixing the structure.

The material for the bending machine is a bearing, a square or corner profile 25x25 mm and 60 cm long, a steel rod with a diameter of 12-25 mm, and bolts 2x5 cm. It must be taken into account that the finished machine will be quite massive and weigh several kilograms.

Jack machine

If desired, you can design a universal device that can bend not only fittings, but also pipes. To make a machine from a jack, you will need to prepare a model capable of lifting up to two tons of cargo.

  1. The steel profile is cut into pieces up to 5 cm.
  2. Then select reinforcement with a diameter of at least 12 mm.
  3. The ends of the rods are placed inside the profile and welded together.
  4. The resulting structures are welded to each other, the result should be a device that plays the role of a wedge for bending.
  5. The working part is fixed on the jack, aligning it correctly vertically and horizontally.
  6. Afterwards, a T-shaped supporting structure is made with a height of 40 cm and a width of 30 cm.
  7. Strips in the shape of pipes are cut out of the corner, welded to the frame and the jack is fixed using them.
  8. Angle sections are welded to the side parts of the supporting frame, then hinges are attached to them.

The jack is inserted into the prepared place, then you need to place a piece of workpiece on the bender and work with the handle. As a result, the reinforcement will bend 90 degrees and achieve the desired bend radius.

Corner machine

The design from the corner is considered simpler and is made according to the following instructions:

  1. Pieces of 20x20 or 30x30 up to 1 meter long are cut from the corner. Dimensions and thickness depend on the diameter of the reinforcement bars.
  2. A pin is welded to the U-shaped profile base;
  3. Next, cut off a piece of pipe with a diameter that allows you to freely put it on top. A part of the angle is welded to it, making sure that the pipe and the angle are perpendicular.
  4. The corner with the pipe is put on the pin, noting where the smallest section was welded. Then it is removed and another piece of the corner profile is welded to the frame.
  5. Another part of the reinforcement is welded to the end of the movable structure, which will need to be held on during operation. A handle is put on it; it should not be made of metal.
  6. Afterwards, legs made of durable reinforcement are welded to the frame.
  7. The rubbing surfaces of the pipe and axle are lubricated with grease or machine oil to facilitate the process.

The reinforcement bender, ready for work, is installed on a large brick or stone so that it does not jump off during work. Afterwards, a reinforcement rod is inserted into it and they try to bend it. The quality of the device is checked by how correctly it will bend the inserted reinforcement.
