How much does Wire VR 5 weigh?

BP steel wire is a separate type of rolled metal, used mainly as a raw material for creating meshes (reinforcement, road or masonry) and other metal products for industrial sectors. In Yekaterinburg, you can buy BP wire at a favorable price from a reliable distributor of rolled metal - the Metallinvest-Ekaterinburg company.

Production and characteristics of BP wire

The raw material for the production of BP periodic wire is wire rod made of low-carbon steel 1-3 ps, kp with a carbon content of less than 0.2%. The wire rod is pulled on rollers, which form diametrical indentations (0.1-0.3 mm deep in increments of up to 0.3 cm) along the entire length of the wire. This corrugation gives the product better adhesion to concrete.

There are two grades of BP steel wire:

  •     I - ordinary wire (low-carbon for non-prestressing reinforcement);
  •     II - high-strength wire (carbon for prestressing reinforcement).

The surface should have no defects other than scratches and rust.

Standard diameter and weight of one meter of VR wire:

  •     0.3 cm - 52 g;
  •     0.4 cm - 92 g;
  •     0.5 cm - 144 g.

Upon customer's request, it is possible to produce BP wire with a diameter from 0.25 to 0.48 cm.

VR1 wire for reinforced concrete structures is used to strengthen building structures - both made of reinforced concrete and all-steel type, VR-1 is also used to strengthen road surfaces. GOST used: 7348-81, 6727-80. Steel grades for VR wire: VR 1, VR 2, VR 3, VR 4. VR1 wire is made by cold-drawn broaching from steel wire rod and has the shape of a thread with a round cross-section; during the rolling process it is obtained corrugated surface.

Where is VR-1 wire used?

The main area of application of VR1 wire:

  • production of reinforcement for reinforced concrete products
  • for reinforcing foundations and load-bearing elements of buildings
  • for road reinforcement

Additionally, low-carbon cold-drawn wire VR 1 with a diameter of 3, 4 and 5 mm is used in the manufacture of masonry mesh, the production of roller blinds in Voronezh and as the main element of chain-link mesh.

Differences from other types of wire

A distinctive feature of BP wire is its corrugated surface, while the arrangement of the corrugations is dented reefs and they are located on opposite sides of the wire rod, and the other two sides are smooth. BP1 wire differs from conventional reinforcement in that the reefs on the reinforcement are convex. The pitch of the dents is equal intervals. An alternative name for BP1 wire is reinforcing wire. BP1 wire is supplied to the end consumer in coils, with a continuous cut and without tangled rows. Coils of wire weighing 20-100 kg are tied into coils. In this case, the weight of the cargo package should not exceed 1500 kg. By agreement, an increase in the weight of the cargo package is allowed.

Weight of welded mesh, masonry mesh made of reinforcing wire GOST 6727-80

How much does Wire VR 5 weigh?

Metal mesh is one of the most popular types of steel products.
They are used in many areas of our lives - from country house construction to the food and chemical industries. Steel mesh is made from steel wire with a thickness of 6 to 20 mm (regular, galvanized or stainless) and is divided into types according to the production method:

  1. welded
  2. woven
  3. wicker (aka “chain-link”)

Welded mesh (often also called reinforcing mesh) is made by spot welding fairly thick wire or reinforcement. They are distinguished by great rigidity and strength - therefore, their reinforced mesh is most often used for reinforcing monolithic reinforced concrete structures and laying brick walls.

But welded mesh can also be used in the construction of various barriers, fences and road surfaces.
The main advantage of welded mesh is, as already mentioned, strength and the ability to be manufactured strictly “to order” - they can be produced with a strictly specified cell size and from rods of different thicknesses.

Such meshes are produced on fairly simple machines from low-carbon wire and are therefore exceptionally cheap.

Weight of wire reinforcement GOST 6727-80

Reinforcing wire GOST 6727-80, depending on the mechanical properties, is divided into ordinary and high-strength, and according to the shape of the surface - into smooth and periodic profile.

Ordinary reinforcing wire (GOST 6727-80*) is made from low-carbon steel. Wire diameter d = 3, 4 and 5 mm. The entire assortment can be of two classes: BI - smooth; VR-1 - periodic profile. Reinforcing wire welds well, which makes it possible to use it as part of reinforcing products (reinforcement mesh).

The periodic profile BP-I is formed by dents diametrically located on its surface. The size of the reefs (dents) depends on the diameter of the wire. The dent depth h is 0.150.25 mm, the pitch s is 23 mm, and the protrusion length b is 0.61 mm.

Welded meshes and frames are made from BP-I class wire, which are used as non-prestressed working reinforcement; only structural reinforcement is made from smooth BI profile. Cold-drawn wire, double-sided periodic profile, is made of low-carbon steel grades St 1-3 ps, kp with a carbon content of no more than 0.22%.

Table. Weight of a linear meter of wire VR-1 GOST 6727-80 (linear density) Nominal diameter d, mm Weight of a meter of wire, kg/m, no more
3,0 0,052
4,0 0,092
5,0 0,144

How to use the steel wire specific gravity table? For example, we need to determine the weight of a wire 100 meters long with a diameter of 3 mm. To carry out the calculation, you need to multiply the specific gravity (density) by the amount of linear meters, i.e. the formula will take the form 0.052x100 = 5.2 kg.

Or vice versa, the weight of a coil of 4mm wire is 10 kg, then we determine the length of linear meters by dividing the mass of the coil by the linear density: 10/0.052 = 192.3 meters.

To calculate the weight and length of wire of small diameters and large lengths (for example, tying wire 0.8 mm, 1.2 mm, 2.2 mm in coils for tying reinforcement), you can use the table below.

diameter d, mm weight 1 km, length 1 ton,  diameter d, mm weight 1 km, length 1 ton,

1,2 8,888 112,511 6,0 222,234 4,500
1,4 12,099 82,651

The symbol of the wire includes its nominal diameter in mm, reinforcement class and standard number, for example: wire 5 Вр-l GOST 6727-80. The nominal diameter of a periodic profile corresponds to its diameter before profiling.

Weight of 1 m2 mesh: reinforcement, masonry, road

The need to determine the weight of the mesh arises when purchasing building materials from a construction company and choosing the carrying capacity of vehicles required for transportation. The actual weight is not regulated in any way and depends on the type of wire used plus the size of the webs - the larger their dimensions and the thickness of the wire, the greater the weight of the mesh.

The masonry mesh according to GOST has its own specific size, established by the model. The width of the cells of the construction grid also plays an important role. These dimensions depend on the original purpose of the mesh and the length of the entire roll. Standard cards have a certain size: masonry grids 0.

25x2, 0.38x2, 0.5x2 and 0.64x 2 meters. The mesh for reinforcement is much larger: 2x3 and 2x6 meters. The diameter of the mesh according to GOST reaches six millimeters, the length is up to six meters, and the width is up to two meters. These indicators may differ, but not dramatically, without significant deviations in the parameters.

Let us indicate, for example, some parameters and standard sizes of masonry mesh cells made of different reinforcing wires: • 3Вр1, weight 1 m² - 2.21 kg, cell size - 50x50 mm (fine mesh); • 3Вр1, weight 1 m² - 0.99 kg, cell size - 100×100 mm; • 3Вр1, weight 1 m² - 0.72 kg, cage size - 150×150 mm; • 4Вр1, weight 1 m² - 3.62 kg, cage size - 50x50 mm; • 4Вр1, weight 1 m² - 2.02 kg, cell size -100×100 mm;

 • 4Вр1, weight 1 m² - 1.24 kg, cell size -150×150 mm.

The size of the mesh cells according to GOST, depending on its overall size, can be 50, 100, 150, 200 millimeters: 50x50x2, 50x50x3, 50x50x5, 100x100x3, 100x100x4, 100x100x5, 100x100x6, 150x150x3 , 150x150x4, 150x150x5, 150x150x6, 200x200x4, 200x200x5 , 200x200x6.

To determine the theoretical weight of the reinforcing mesh, you can use ready-made tables or you can calculate it manually using the formula. To do this, calculate the weight of one reinforcement bar 1 m long and multiply by the number of bars per square meter. The number of rods per unit area is inversely proportional to the size of the mesh cell in the roll. The smaller the cell size for a given wire diameter, the greater the weight of the mesh roll per linear meter.

By multiplying the mesh dimensions (length by width) of the roll and the theoretical weight of 1 square meter, you can determine the actual weight of the entire roll. It should not differ by more than ±5% from the theoretical one. Calculating the weight of reinforcement mesh is not a complicated procedure, and there are automatic tools for this, such as a mesh weight calculator.

We will tabulate all the calculated values obtained for the mass of the mesh with cell dimensions AxA = 50x50, 100x100, 150x150, 200x200 made of reinforcing wire 3Вр1, 4Вр1, 5Вр1 with and without galvanized coating.

The approximate weight of one masonry mesh card (armoured belt) depends on the dimensional parameters, which may vary slightly among different Ukrainian manufacturers depending on local market needs, which is allowed by technical conditions.

Each mesh manufacturer has its own range of mesh sizes and wire thicknesses within the GOST standards.

Welded mesh is used for reinforcing reinforced concrete elements, strengthening brickwork, manufacturing technological structures in industry and agriculture, and road construction in Kyiv.

All types of mesh are welded using resistance spot welding, which is based on the fact that a strong and long-lasting connection occurs when a large electric current passes through tightly compressed wire rods.

In this case, the metal of the wire melts, and then, after stopping the current supply, it cools and crystallizes.

The process of welding wire, as a physical process, is described by the formula Q=I2*R*t, where Q is the amount of heat - depends on the magnitude of the electric current passing through the cross-shaped joints of the rods, R - the resistance of the metal being welded at the welding point, t - the time of passage of the current .

Important to note:1. When welding reinforcing mesh, current density is of great importance, which depends on the size of the welding point of the reinforcement. If the requirements for the strength of the welded mesh are high, then the contact patch must be large enough, the current must be increased in order to maintain the required density and strict welding mode of the reinforcing wire mesh.

Otherwise, for the necessary heating of the metal, it will be necessary to increase the time of current passage, which will lead to overheating and blackening of the joint, as well as a large splash of molten metal.2. The contact patch of the metal wire is of great importance.

Increasing it on the one hand reduces the resistance, and on the other hand the specific pressure on the rods decreases and the resistance increases. All these changes affect the heating at the welding point of the wire mesh.3. The compression force of two reinforcement bars is of great importance, because the formation of the core during steel crystallization depends on it.

Selecting parameters for welding wire mesh is the key to producing quality products!

Mesh VR-1 durable material for strengthening concrete

In the construction industry there are concrete structures that need to be strengthened with special reinforcing materials. VR-1 mesh is the most popular building material. This product has high strength and reliability, which ensures a long service life of the structure.

In this article we will take a detailed look at what it is, where it is used, types and sizes of VR mesh. Let's consider the main classifications and the method of calculating the required amount of material for strengthening.

General idea of reinforcing mesh

Reinforcing mesh is a metal product made from steel wire of various diameters. The wire is cut into pieces of a certain size and welded strictly perpendicular to each other.

Depending on the class and purpose of the finished product, different wires can be used for manufacturing.

This can be cold-rolled mesh VR-1 made of special steel with a low carbon content in the composition or hot-rolled from steel grade A-III or A-I.

You need to pay attention to the designations in the form: VR-2 grid, VR-3 grid, etc. This is not a type of wire, but a corresponding strength class. The higher the number, the larger the diameter of the rods, and, accordingly, the higher the strength class. The rods can be either smooth or with a corrugated surface. A mesh of wire with corrugations will provide a stronger connection to the concrete mixture.

Products are manufactured at specialized enterprises that have the necessary machines and additional equipment for welding. Finished products with a small diameter and cell size are rolled into rolls. Thicker products are sold in cards of a certain size. Each kart must have documentation and appropriate quality certificates.

All characteristics and geometric dimensions of the product must comply with GOST:

• Standard cell sizes from 50 by 50 millimeters to 200 by 200 millimeters;

• One linear meter of mesh made from the thinnest wire should weigh approximately 0.5 kilograms, and from the thickest wire – 3.7 kilograms. A slight deviation is allowed (50-80 grams); • The width of the card or roll is no more than 150 millimeters, and the length of one sheet is 200 millimeters.

As you already understand, the main material for making meshes is VR-1 metal wire. It is widely used in both the construction and industrial sectors.

It can be made from steel of various grades, as well as with the addition of impurities of other metals (zinc, aluminum and others).

6 main classification groups

GOST, on the basis of which reinforcing mesh is produced for strengthening concrete structures, specifies seven main classification groups. Let's look at each of them in more detail.

  1. The first group distributes products according to the main section of the rod: • Light type. This category includes products made from rods no more than 5 millimeters thick. The main reinforcement step for concrete structures must correspond to the basic values (10-30 centimeters). If necessary, it can be changed up or down, but there must be a technical and economic justification for this;

    • Heavy type. Here, rods with a thickness of 12 to 40 millimeters are used for production. If the reinforcement has previously undergone a heat treatment procedure for strengthening, then rods with a diameter of 10 mm or more can be used.

  2. Second group. Distribution relative to the position of distribution and main operating fittings. There are only two varieties: • Working rods can be positioned both lengthwise and transversely, and distribution type rods must be strictly perpendicular to the mesh itself;

    • The working rods are located lengthwise and crosswise at once.

  3. The third group for classification is carried out according to technical characteristics: • First class. These are heavy structures with large wire thickness (BP-6 mesh). The working rods are arranged longitudinally and have a larger cross-section than that of the distribution elements; • Second class. It is also considered heavy with a fairly large thickness of rods. The working fittings are located lengthwise and crosswise; • Third class. Another type of heavy mesh, only here the working rods are located across; • Fourth grade. These products are already considered lightweight. They are made from fairly thin wire and have small cell sizes;

    • Fifth grade. Lightweight type, where the cross rods are installed with a slight offset.

  4. • In rolls.
    If the mesh is light with a wire thickness of less than 5 millimeters, then it is rolled into rolls of a certain length. Rolls are very convenient for transportation, and they are also easy to cut and undergo other mechanical processing; • In cards. If the thickness of the wire from which the mesh is made is more than 5 millimeters, then twisting it into a roll is already problematic. Therefore, it is supplied in flat cards of appropriate geometric dimensions.
  5. Fifth group for main purpose: • Masonry mesh. It has large thickness of rods (6 mm or more). Its main purpose is to strengthen brick or block masonry, as well as strengthen the foundation of houses and industrial buildings. It is supplied mainly in cards with different widths. To reinforce walls made of bricks or blocks, the width should be 380 - 640 millimeters. And for partitions, the width should be about 110-250 mm. In order to make it convenient to reinforce walls and partitions, the cards should be no more than two meters long; • Reinforcing mesh. It is made of wire with a thickness of 3 to 6 mm. The shape of the cells can be either rectangular or square. For regular mesh, smooth rods are used, while for road products, corrugated and thicker rods are used;

    • Rabitz. These are special products that are made by twisting wire of various diameters (from 1.5 to 5.5 millimeters). The main material is black or galvanized wire. The main purpose of these products is the construction of fences, enclosures and cages for animals. Widely used for economic purposes.

  6. The sixth classification group is based on the accuracy class of the welded joint: • Normal accuracy. Here, too high demands are not placed on the quality of welds;

    • Increased accuracy. In this case, the welds are stronger and of higher quality.

Characteristics and advantages of the VR-1 mesh

The main elements are welded strictly at an angle of 90 degrees on special equipment using a resistance welding machine. The shape of the cells in most cases is square. The cell has typical side dimensions of 50 (50 by 50, 100 by 100, 150 by 150, etc.). Each manufacturer may offer different cell sizes and rod thicknesses, but all this will be within the appropriate GOST. Production according to individual sizes is allowed.

Products can be untreated or coated with zinc to protect against corrosion. The thickness of the protective layer may vary. The larger it is, the higher the anti-corrosion properties and service life will be. Galvanized products can be used in conditions with high humidity. The VR-1 mesh with a protective coating costs several times more than the usual one. Therefore, if your budget is limited, then it is worth purchasing more budget options.

Construction mesh VR-1 for strengthening concrete structures has the following advantages: • Versatility.

The material can be used for various construction and industrial purposes; • High quality indicators (strength, resistance to mechanical stress and other indicators); • Long service life.

When used under normal conditions, the material can last for several decades;

• Economic benefits. Compared to other building reinforcement materials, mesh is relatively inexpensive.

Where is the VR grid used?

This product is used in various fields of industry, but it is most widely used in the construction industry. The mesh is mainly used to strengthen reinforced concrete structures for various purposes, to reinforce brick and block masonry walls and partitions of a building, as well as for a number of facing and facade works.

Masonry-type products are designed to strengthen walls. As a result, the possibility of cracks and other deformations is completely eliminated. It is also used in the reconstruction of old buildings and structures. Welded mesh is used to reinforce various reinforced concrete slabs, pillars and other elements. With its help, the foundation, floors are reinforced, and floor screed is also performed.

The material can be used to make fences for country houses and industrial facilities, enclosures and cages for farm animals. To strengthen asphalt during road work, a heavy mesh with thick rods and large cell sizes (up to 250 millimeters) is used.

How is the VR-1 grid calculated?

Before starting construction work, it is necessary to correctly perform all the necessary calculations. It will be necessary to calculate not only the required amount of material, but also its dimensions with basic indicators. Only on the basis of the data obtained can you purchase suitable products.

When choosing, you should take into account the specific location where construction work will be carried out, as well as all its features. For example, if it is necessary to carry out the procedure of reinforcing the foundation, then it is worth taking into account the perimeter of the future building and all the loads that will affect it. After this, it will be possible to calculate the thickness of the rods and the installation pitch.

One of the important parameters is the weight of the product. Based on this, the final cost is calculated. To do this, you need to find out the mass of one linear meter and multiply it by the total length of the mesh that you will use in each specific case.

To correctly perform all the necessary calculations, you must have certain technical knowledge. Therefore, it is best to entrust this procedure to experienced specialists. If the calculations are incorrect, the structures will deform over time, and the overall service life of the construction project will be significantly reduced.

Reinforcing mesh VR-1 is actively used to strengthen reinforced concrete structures and brickwork. If you want your construction projects to last for decades, then you need to choose the right quality products.

Wire VR 1 - characteristics according to GOST

VR-1 wire is a type of rolled steel of a periodic profile, used to create reinforced concrete structures. Technical specifications for VR-1 wire with diameters of 3, 4, 5 mm made of low-carbon steel are regulated by GOST 6727-80, for products with diameters of 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 mm intended for strengthening prestressed reinforced concrete structures - GOST 7348 -81.

Technical characteristics of wire VR-1

The wire is produced by cold drawing on equipment with specially shaped rolls. They form a periodic profile, creating diametrically located dents 0.15-0.25 mm deep with a pitch of 2-3 mm. According to GOST 6727-80, products with a diameter of 3, 4, 5 are manufactured; according to technical conditions, products of intermediate diameters are produced - 2.5-4.8 mm.

Weight of 1 m of wire VR-1 according to GOST 7348-81

Nominal diameter, mm Weight 1 m, kg
3,0 0,0555
4,0 0,0987
5,0 0,154
6,0 0,222
7,0 0,302
8,0 0,395

To mark metal products, an alphanumeric designation is used, for example 4 VR-1 GOST 6727-80, where:

  • 4 – diameter;
  • “Вр” – periodic profile;
  • 1 – accuracy class.

In the designation of products manufactured in accordance with GOST, after the letters “Вр” the strength class is indicated: 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400, 1500.

Russian-made VR-1 wire is sold in coils of 20-100, 500-1500 kg, since the production of this rolled product in rods is a process that requires significant energy and labor costs. At the customer's request, the wire is cut into rods 2-4 m long, leveled, and packaged in bundles weighing up to 500 kg.

Application of wire VR-1

These metal products are most widely used for the manufacture of lightweight reinforcing mesh - flat and canned, with a wavy structure.

To improve resistance to aggressive environments, the wire is coated with a protective zinc layer and additionally with polymer compounds. To produce welded mesh, the rods are laid perpendicular to each other and connected by contact welding.

Cells can be square or rectangular. The standard card length is 2000 mm, any width.

Wire mesh VR-1 is used in:

  • construction - for reinforcing concrete elements, during the construction of greenhouses and light frame buildings;
  • road construction and when carrying out repair activities;
  • finishing work for leveling vertical and horizontal surfaces.

Requirements for wire mesh VR-1 according to GOST 23279-85

According to GOST 23279-85, welded flat mesh is sold in bags or rolls weighing no more than three tons. The roll is tied with knitting wire in three places, the package in four. The tags accompanying the rolls or bags contain information about the manufacturer, date of manufacture, weight in tons and batch number. There must be at least two such tags. They are located on different sides of the package or roll.

Products can only be stored in dry rooms with normal temperatures. Bags and rolls are stored horizontally on pallets. Packages can be stacked in stacks, the height of which does not exceed 2 m, rolls - no more than three pieces in height.
