How to cut a pipe at an angle
Cutting a pipe at an angle is a typical task in the manufacture of metal structures. Often there is a need to cut a pipe at an angle. The cut pipes are welded at a given angle to the walls of the structures, and two-link elbows are made from them.
Before cutting, use patterns (templates) applied to the pipe to mark the cutting line. For each diameter and each angle of the selected diameter, a separate unique pattern (template) is required.
The proposed Excel table allows you to obtain dimensions for constructing a pattern for marking pipes of any diameter, cut at any angle. Enter the outer diameter of the pipe and the cutting angle into the yellow cells of the table and you will instantly receive the ordinates and abscissas of these points.
Transfer these points to paronite or cardboard and smoothly connect them together. The pattern (template) is ready.
Templates can be printed in full size
When making an elbow, the cutting angle should be equal to half the angle of the elbow.
An example of determining the cutting angle for the manufacture of an elbow with an angle of 135 degrees (90+45). Not to be confused with a sharp 45 degree knee! Formula: 135/2=67.5. We cut the pipe at an angle of 67.5 degrees, we get two pieces of pipe with cutting angles of 67.5 degrees, we connect them along the cut line with reference to a common generatrix, we weld them and we get an elbow (67.5+67.5) of 135 degrees.
While working, I made the following observation. When working with large diameters, the pattern made and wrapped around the pipe was clearly shorter, did not cover the entire pipe, leaving a gap of 20-30 mm.
The Gostov diameter of the pipe was indicated correctly, but the pattern was shorter. In my opinion, this error is caused by the fact that it is impossible to press the pattern tightly to the pipe and the outer diameter of the pipe has increased (rust, dirt). I had to use a “belt” to measure the circumference and divide by π (3.1416). Enter the resulting diameter into the table.

How to cut a pipe at 45 degrees
When installing a pipeline, you often have to cut the pipe at an angle. Moreover, the angle must have exactly the degree that is necessary for the design.
If the angle is made incorrectly, it is impossible to produce exactly the dimensions of the pipeline that were supposed to be made.
For example, the pipe will rotate 45 degrees during installation, therefore, you need to know how to cut the pipe at 45 degrees. To do this we need marking tools, a grinder or a hacksaw.
Marking using a sheet of paper
One of the simplest methods is to mark the corner using a piece of paper. We fold the square sheet strictly diagonally. We take the pipe and wrap it with a folded sheet so that the edges of the diagonals are opposite each other.
Thus, on the smaller side of the sheet we have an angle of 45 degrees. We take any marking tool and mark the location of the future pipe cut along the sheet line. To prevent the markings from being accidentally erased, you can use narrow tape.
This marking method is convenient for a long pipe of large diameter, and the cut location is somewhere in the middle.
Using a water container
Marking in the water
What should we do if we are dealing with a small diameter pipe, and we need to cut the pipe at an angle somewhere close to the edge? A deep container filled with water will come to the rescue. Before starting work, you need to calculate the angle of inclination and make a mark on the container.
Next, we just need to carefully lower the edge of the pipe into the water and tilt it towards the mark on the container. We take out the pipe, mark the line of contact with the water, and boldly cut according to the markings. This method is good when marking a large number of pipes.
A ready-made template from a container of water will speed up the process of our work.
Computer program to help
Computer program
I would also like to consider the method of marking using a computer program. This is a rather complicated method for those who are not used to working with a computer. It requires knowledge of a PC, programs for developments and drawings. We begin work by making a drawing indicating the size of the circle and the slope. We make a so-called virtual template.
Virtual cutting
Then use a printer to print the image onto a sheet of paper. The larger the diameter of the pipe, the more sheets of markings there will be. Using scissors, we cut out all parts of the drawing and, using tape, glue them together. The finished template is applied to the pipe, and we make markings along the edge of the paper.
This marking method is considered one of the most accurate. If your computer does not have such programs, you can use the Internet. You can download a pattern for marking on the Internet. It also needs to be printed and cut out. We wrap the finished pattern around the pipe and mark it.
If the pipe is profile
We cut the profile pipe at an angle according to the markings
But, for example, we have a profile pipe, not a round one. Manual marking of a profile pipe can lead to a large error. The best way out of this situation would be to make a template from the same profile of a larger diameter.
Take a small piece of profile pipe and use a protractor to mark an angle of 45 degrees. We cut along the markings with a grinder and grind the edges so as not to get hurt by burrs when working. Then all we have to do is insert a profile of a smaller diameter into the template and, having made markings, cut it off.
Cutting a profile pipe at an angle in a homemade device In this article, we looked at how to cut a pipe at 45 degrees. Using one of the above methods, mark and make the cut. For a smoother cut, it is better to use a grinder. When cutting by welding, experience is required, otherwise the cuts will result in unevenness. As a last resort, you can use a hacksaw. Currently, there are many different devices for cutting pipes at an angle on the market, but purchasing them requires extra costs. It’s easier and cheaper to make a template for yourself once and use it as needed.
Thanks to this video you will learn how to cut a pipe at an angle of 45 or 90 degrees using a computer program:

How to cut a pipe at an angle - marking options for round and profile pipes
:
When installing a pipeline, it is often necessary to cut the pipe at a certain angle. Accuracy plays a big role in this task. There are several simple ways to cut a pipe at an angle.
An incorrect pipe cut will make it impossible to install the structure of the shape that was originally intended. For example, if you plan to rotate the system by 45 degrees, then it is necessary to cut the pipe at 45 degrees. To complete the task, you will need marking tools and a grinder (it can be replaced with a hacksaw).
Marking a corner with a piece of paper
Marking with a paper sheet is one of the simplest ways to complete the task. A square sheet is required. It folds exactly diagonally. The resulting template for cutting pipes must be wrapped around the product so that the long side runs parallel to its cross-section.
Then an angle of 45 degrees is formed on the smaller side. All that remains is to mark the cut line using a construction pencil or marker on a sheet of paper.
It is recommended to wrap the marking area with narrow tape to prevent it from being accidentally erased. This method is excellent for long, large pipes with the cut location approximately in the middle of the product.
Method of marking using a container of water instead of a pattern
This marking method is suitable for small-diameter pipes that are planned to be cut at a certain angle close to the edge. First you need to prepare a deep container of water. The planned angle of inclination is marked on it. Now you need to carefully immerse the end of the product in the liquid, tilt it towards the mark, and then pull it out.
As a result of such actions, a clear line of contact with water will appear on it; it needs to be highlighted. The pipe is cut along it at an angle. This method is best suited for jobs that require multiple markings.
Using the computer program
To implement this method of marking pipes for cutting, you will need a computer with special programs. First, you need to draw up a drawing that shows the transverse dimensions of the product, as well as the planned cut angle. You need to get a virtual template.

How to properly cut a steel pipe at an angle of 45⁰
When installing pipes, there is often a need to join them at right angles, therefore, the question arises: “How to cut them at 45 degrees?” There is no room for mistakes in this matter, because any slightest inaccuracy will lead to consequences that will cause even more difficulties.
In order to make an even cut you will need: marking material, a grinder/hacksaw.
Marking material options
- The first option will require a sheet of paper. It must be made square and folded diagonally. Next, you need to wrap it around the pipe so that the long side is parallel to the cuts. The short one, in turn, will become a line along which you will need to make a mark, which will indicate the required angle.
- The marking of a profile pipe differs from a round one.
You will need a piece of the same profile, on which there will be the desired mark made using a protractor. It will serve as a template.
- If you need to mark a large number of small pipes, a container of water will come to the rescue. To do this, you need to draw water and make a mark on the container, which will determine the angle of inclination of the pipe.
Then you need to lower the pipe into the water, aligning it with the mark, and mark the place where the pipe comes into contact with the liquid.
Working with cast iron pipes
When working with pipes made of this material, it is important to take into account its peculiarity - it is very fragile. Therefore, a certain list of actions is needed here:
- Marking is done in the same way as with conventional pipes.
- A block of wood is placed at the cut site for support.
- A cut of several millimeters is made along the entire selected perimeter.
- Next, you need to insert the cutter into the recesses and hit it sharply and firmly with a hammer.
Result: the unnecessary piece will break off, leaving an even cut that can be modified if necessary.
Working with thin-walled pipes
These pipes are particularly easy to deform, making them very difficult to work with. In order to avoid deformation, a filler is used, the most easily accessible is sand, which is poured into the pipe cavity.
Tools.
- For personal use, a good option is hand-held pipe cutters. They allow you to cut pipes with an even cut using cutting edges on the rollers. Available with single rollers and rows of them.
- Bulgarian. A universal tool for cutting various parts. There are different discs designed for different materials.

Cutting pipes at an angle: advantages and disadvantages of different methods
07.12.2018 10:52
During installation and plumbing work, it is often necessary to cut workpieces at a certain angle. Changing the direction of the cut line is necessary for further joining and welding with other pipes of the same configuration, or for installation of shut-off and control valves.
It is worth considering that precision cutting at the desired angle is necessary to obtain a high joint density of rolled metal. To do this, you need to have the necessary equipment, a high-quality pipe cutter and have relevant experience in carrying out pipe processing work.
In this article we will look at techniques for cutting pipes at various angles.
1. Methods for marking pipes at an angle of 45 degrees
Cutting pipe blanks at an angle of 45° is most in demand when installing heating mains, sewer networks, and gas pipeline systems. For these purposes, pipes made of ferrous metals and stainless steels of cylindrical cross-section, small and medium diameter - 20-500 mm are used.
One of the main tasks when cutting pipes at an angle of 45 degrees is the accuracy of measuring the angle and the evenness of the pipe cut, so that when joining, the joined elements coincide with an accuracy of a millimeter. This is especially true for thin-walled pipes - with the slightest cutting error, the walls of the connected pipes will not be able to connect in the desired configuration. Therefore, close attention must be paid to cutting accuracy.
Marking round pipes
If you don’t have a production template, you can use a pattern made from a square paper sheet. To mark the pipe, perform the following steps:
- Fold the square sheet strictly diagonally, aligning opposite corners. The length of the diagonal of the pattern should be equal to the circumference of the workpiece.
- The folded sheet is wrapped around the pipe.
It is important to ensure that the side of the pattern located closer to the end of the workpiece is strictly perpendicular to the central axis.
- Dotted markings are made at the location of the future cut.
- Next, the pipe is cut.
Important! When considering cutting methods, it is necessary to take into account the material of the pipes. It is easier to cut copper and steel blanks with a diameter of up to 65 mm using paper patterns.
To mark thick-walled steel pipes of large cross-section, it is better to use paronite templates.
Marking square and rectangular pipes
To make a pattern for marking a profile pipe, it is more advisable to use a similar blank only with a larger cross-section. Marking on the workpiece is performed once using an engineering ruler or protractor. A profile is inserted into the cavity of the finished template, marking is carried out and subsequent cutting is carried out.
2. Marking pipes at an angle of 90 degrees
Marking the pipe at a 90 degree angle is quite easy. If necessary, you can use a sheet of paper: the sheet is wrapped on the pipe, secured and marked. It is important to ensure that the edges of the sheet coincide along the entire circumference, then the cut will be even.
How to cut a profile pipe at an angle of 90 degrees?
To cut square or rectangular pipes, it is preferable to use a triangle. This device alternately marks with a marker on each side of the profile. After drawing the dotted line, the pipe is cut.
3. Marking pipes at other angles
To cut pipes at angles of other values, you will need patterns with the appropriate values. You can prepare a template using Excel or other computer programs by entering the values of the pipe diameter, desired angle, etc. in the appropriate interface.
In calculation programs, you can calculate the cutting of pipes of any diameter and at any angle. But most often this method is used to create patterns for cutting pipes of small and medium diameter. For cutting large diameter pipes and in large volumes, it is preferable to use programmable cutting machines.
How to cut a pipe using the collar method?
Often, when installing water supply networks, pipe blanks are required that have a cut at the end in the form of a triangle. This pipe configuration is necessary to connect to another round pipe at a right angle.
To perform a collar cut proceed as follows:
- The circumference of the pipe is measured.
- The pipe is cut at an angle of 90 degrees.
- At the end of the pipe, equidistant points are marked, which are located at angles of 90 and 180 degrees relative to each other.
- Calculations are performed: the diameter of the pipe is divided by three.
- The resulting value is plotted from two diametrically located points and marked with dots.
- These points are connected to other smooth arcs.
- After cutting with a pipe cutting tool, semicircular segments are separated, which are ready for subsequent welding work.

How to properly cut a pipe at 45 degrees: tools
In various situations, home craftsmen often come to the question of correct marking for precise cutting of pipe blanks at an angle of 45 degrees. Today there is a huge selection of tools for both domestic and industrial cutting of pipes at any angle. The cost of such devices can be quite high.
How to cut a pipe at an angle
It is proposed to consider methods for marking workpieces for cutting at an angle of 45 degrees in domestic conditions without the use of expensive professional equipment.
Marking and cutting the pipe
Pipe Angle Cutting Tool
The process of marking the workpiece to be cut seems quite simple. But it should be noted that roundings made during the manual marking process will create an irreparable error after cutting, which will lead to inconsistencies and the formation of defective products.
In order to eliminate such defects, it is necessary to make a simple tool for clearly marking the profile parts.
At the same time, cutting products at an angle of 450 is much easier. A regular piece of U-shaped steel profile, made at an angle of 45 degrees, will be a reliable tool for accurately cutting pipes.
In this case, the size of the profile for the ruler must be selected so that it becomes possible to easily position the profile pipe to be cut in it.
Manual pipe cutting tool
To perform such a tool marking the correct angle, you must have the following additional tool:
- Goniometer;
- Metal scriber;
- Bulgarian;
- Cutting disc;
- File.
Device for cutting pipes at an angle How to cut a pipe at an angle correctly
Making a measuring tool for cutting pipes is easy. To do this, it is necessary to cut a segment 20-30 cm long from a profile blank. Using a protractor, mark an angle of 45 degrees at any end of the segment. Next, use a grinder to cut off the profile. The resulting template must be tested for accuracy.
In case of deviations, process the measuring device with a file.
Using such a home-made marking tool makes the process of cutting pipes much easier, especially if they are large in volume.
To mark, you just need to place the profile pipe to be cut in the made device and draw the correct angle using a scriber. During the marking process, the length of the products is controlled. Next, you need to cut the pipe clearly along the marking lines using a grinder.
It is worth noting that first the pipe is cut along diagonal marks on both sides, then straight marked lines are cut. Such templates for cutting pipes at an angle of 45 degrees will save enough time and money.
Marking and cutting round pipes
Pattern for cutting pipes at an angle; pipe pattern at an angle of 45
When cutting round pipes at a 45 degree angle, a tool made for rectangular pipes is not quite suitable. For a more accurate, streamlined drawing of the cutting line at an angle, it is recommended to use a paper pattern that is wound on the workpiece.
Patterns are developed in the modern world using computer programs.
The cutting line changes depending on the angle and pipe diameter specified in the program. Common patterns can be found on the Internet or you can remember our painted rulers from school.

How to cut a large pipe straight
It's not the gods who burn the pots!
When you have all the necessary tools at your disposal, you don’t think about how difficult it is to correctly perform certain routine operations. For example, do you know how to cut a pipe evenly with a grinder? It was this request that my neighbor in the garage came to me with, who, unlike me, was not used to doing much with his own hands.
It turns out that after dismantling the water supply in his apartment, he was left with a large number of unnecessary pipes, from which his wife decided to make a greenhouse in the country. I don’t know why he needed to cut the parts exactly straight, but I gave him all the necessary recommendations.
And at the same time, I thought that other people who do not have a professional pipe cutter in their arsenal would need instructions that describe how to cut a pipe at 90 degrees. That is why I have prepared the material that I bring to your attention today.
Tools used
Cutting pipes is a fairly simple operation, but correct cutting of pipes, when the cut is located exactly at right angles to the surface of the product, is a responsible procedure. And if you have to cut the parts of the engineering system at a different angle, then there is no way to do it without consulting an experienced builder (I will modestly keep silent about myself).
However, I am not talking about cutting large diameter pipes. Indeed, in this case, to ensure proper welding or gluing, it is necessary to maintain an angle of 90 degrees.
There is special equipment for any cutting operation. This is what I want to talk about first.
For individual use
This category of tools is used in private and small commercial construction for the installation of pipeline systems (plumbing, heating, sewerage, ventilation) of small diameter.
Personally, in my practice I used the following devices:
- Pruning cutters. Used for cutting polymer pipes with a diameter of up to 75 mm.
Pipe cutters allow you to make cuts quickly and correctly.
To provide the necessary force, the devices are equipped with a gear mechanism. Before cutting a metal-plastic pipe (or a polypropylene product), it must be placed on a special shelf. The design feature of the pruning shears will not allow the part to be installed crookedly, so the cut will always be made at a right angle to the surface.
The price of such products starts from 10 dollars and can reach up to 100. It depends on the manufacturer, material, size, and so on.
- Disc pipe cutter. A device for cutting pipes, in which the cutting part is made in the form of a disk made of very durable material with sharpened edges. It is pressed against the pipe wall with a lever and pulled around the entire circumference.
Large diameter pipes are cut with a disc pipe cutter.
I use a disc pipe cutter to cut PVC pipes from which internal and external sewerage is constructed. It cannot be used for metal-plastic, since the applied force will cause the thin-walled material to crumple.
- Guillotine. You can imagine the design features and operating principle of this cutting device if you have seen the execution instrument used in medieval France.
Guillotine with screw for even cutting of pipes.
There is a knife on top, which is lowered along guides onto the pipe located below. Most often I used such a device for cutting a large number of pipes and the unit was equipped with an electric drive. However, models with a screw are available for sale.
- Hacksaw for metal. Suitable for cutting pipes from any materials into required lengths. My grandfather taught me to use it. The special secret here is to apply strictly measured force, otherwise the canvas will break.
A hacksaw is the simplest tool for cutting pipes from any materials.
After making a cut with a hacksaw, burrs form at the end of the pipe. You need to get rid of them using a shaver or file. Otherwise, the pipe connection may not be airtight.
- Angle grinder. We are talking, if anyone doesn’t know, about an ordinary grinder. A special cutting disc is placed on it, after which you can cut pipes of both small and large diameters.
A grinder in skillful hands turns into an effective pipe cutter.
As with a hacksaw, a grinder can work with any material: from plastic to metal and cast iron.
- Jigsaw. This tool can also cut pipes, but even I, a person with considerable experience, was not always able to make a cut at a right angle.
A jigsaw also cuts pipes, but is it smooth?
Therefore, there is no need to hammer nails with a microscope; there are simpler cutting methods.
But first I want to tell you about the professional equipment used to cut pipes at industrial enterprises and when laying main water transport communications.
For industrial use
We seem to have figured out local and individual engineering systems, but the question remains of how to evenly cut a large-diameter pipe. In this case, special equipment (often stationary) comes to the rescue, with which professional builders work.
I once worked as a housing department foreman, so I had to deal with such units. I'll tell you about the most interesting ones:
- Lathes. These units perform any processing of round pipeline parts, including those used for transporting aggressive liquids.
The maximum size of pipes processed depends on the cross-section of the spindle holes and the distance between the fastening heads. In addition to banal cutting, lathes can chamfer, cut pipes and perform other operations, including in automatic mode.
- Band cutting machines. Used for cutting large diameter sewer and water pipes that are already laid in trenches (or placed in buildings).
Machine for cutting pipes laid in the ground.
The band cutter is capable of performing operations even on highly deformed products. In addition to direct cutting, the device can chamfer the desired shape.
- Disc cutting machines. Used for processing metal parts, including non-ferrous metals. They can cut both round and profiled pipes of large diameter (section).
The cutting disc machine cuts the pipes into parts of the required length.
In most cases, such devices are part of a production line and are equipped with a device that collects and packages a certain number of identical pipes for shipment to customers.
- Manual disc cutters . Used for cutting a large number of pipes from different materials directly at the installation site.
Manual disc cutter for pipes made of any materials.
These devices have a special clamping device that firmly holds the part during processing without deforming it. Therefore, you can cut metal, copper, and metal-plastic pipes.
Some cutters are equipped with a rotation system and orbital welding. That is, pipes can not only be cut, but also joined to each other.

How to cut a pipe at an angle - we describe in general terms
Quite often, when performing various construction or repair work, it becomes necessary to cut a pipe. This could be plumbing work, laying pipelines or installing heating systems, but in any case it is necessary to know how to cut a pipe evenly. Some features of performing this task will be discussed further.
Cutting technology
As a rule, the volume and complexity of work required by a home craftsman does not require the use of high-performance and expensive production-level equipment. When making a greenhouse frame, you can completely cut the pipes with a grinder or a traditional hand saw.
Each type of cut has its own nuances, and some require special tricks.
Right angle
The accuracy of the cut is largely determined by the quality of the markings. Experienced craftsmen advise marking cutting lines not with a pencil, but with masking tape, following the following sequence of actions:
- Set aside the required size and make a small mark with a marker or pencil.
- Carefully, applying to the mark, cover the part with masking tape in a circle. The edges of the paper should meet without moving. This is a sign that the paper is pasted correctly. If the edges do not meet, the tape needs to be re-glued.
- Securely fix the workpiece to prevent it from moving or distorting during work. For fixation, use a vice or clamps.
- The cut (smaller) piece of the workpiece should be left hanging so that it does not pinch the blade or disk.
- The cut starts from the top.
- The grinder disk (or hacksaw blade) is guided exactly along the edge of the masking tape, without deviating to the side.
This will allow you to cut exactly the required length.
If the diameter is large, then the markings are done in the same way, but cut in parts, in sectors of 30-60°. After cutting the next sector, the fastenings are loosened and the pipe is rotated. Then they fix it again and continue cutting from the place where the previous sector ended. To make it smooth, special attention should be paid to the beginning of the cut, avoiding steps and nicks.
Oblique incision at 45°
It is possible to cut the end of the pipe exactly at 45° without the use of complex devices. All you have to do is use your plumbing skills. You will need to do the following:
- Cut a piece of paper into a square shape.
- Fold diagonally. Learn the right isosceles triangle.
- Wrap the workpiece with a sheet so that the leg of the triangle is perpendicular to the axis, and the hypotenuse forms an upward spiral.
- Secure the sheet with tape.
- Fix the workpiece and cut along the oblique edge of the sheet. It will turn out at 45°.
Pipe bevel cutting
There is another popular method. The end of the workpiece is immersed in a container with liquid at the required angle. You need to cut along the border of the wet and dry areas.
If you need to cut not perpendicularly, then it is better to use an old carpentry tool - a miter box.
This is a U-shaped template, in the side walls of which slots have already been made at specified angles. The pipe is placed against the wall of the miter box farthest from the master and pressed there with a hand or a hand clamp. The hand saw blade is inserted into the appropriate grooves and sawed. If necessary, cut at a different angle, you can make additional cuts in the walls of the miter box.
How to cut tiles in a semicircle
Making semicircular steps for a porch with your own hands requires calculating the depth, length and height of the steps.
The choice of material for their cladding affects the ease of movement around the porch.
But the smooth lines of the porch look so attractive and harmonious! At the end of the article there is a thematic video on this topic, see for yourself.
Beautiful entrance ensemble with a semicircular porch
Foundation
Laying the foundation
The process of constructing semicircular steps for the porch involves arranging the foundation:
- The space for the foundation is being cleared.
- A 20-centimeter pit is dug. The pit is filled with crushed stone to the middle of the level.
- The remaining space is filled with cement mortar.
- Formwork is being constructed for the round steps of the porch, where the board thickness is at least 2 cm.
You can clearly see the process in the photo. Types of cladding of concrete marches: stone, pebbles, wood, brick, marble, ceramic tiles - the most popular.
Calculations
Calculation of steps for a do-it-yourself porch involves determining the height corresponding to the base of the foundation (the segment from the door threshold to the ground). 3 cm is subtracted from the upper level. This is due to the swelling of the door during high humidity (especially wooden ones). Next, set the angle of the porch.
Cozy design of a deliberately casual red brick porch
According to SNiP regulations, the slope of the flight of an individual building should not exceed 45-50 degrees. A convenient option would be round steps of 22-37 degrees.
Dimensions
Optimal size: 300 mm deep and 170 mm high (min=100). Width - 700 mm. The smallest number of steps is 2.
How is the data calculated?
Let’s say the height of the steps is 50 cm, the slope is 30 degrees, and the string size is C=B/sinB=50/sin30=50/0.5=100 cm. A three-stage porch assumes a string length of = 33 cm.
Materials and equipment
You can make this porch yourself
When thinking about the question of how to make semicircular steps at the porch with your own hands, you need to stock up on important components of the process:
- facing material;
- crushed stone or gravel;
- concrete mixture 1 x 4;
- board 20 cm wide;
- wooden beam 10 cm wide.
Tools: shovels, pick, chisel, hammer, level, measuring tool.
Tile for stairs and its features
Facing semicircular steps with ceramic tiles will be more successful if you first decide on the purchase of materials.
Due to the constant load on the product, the influence of aggressive environments, ultraviolet radiation and unstable temperature conditions on it, the choice of finish must be approached taking into account practicality and reliability.
We must not forget about safety. The use of a glossy coating with a sliding effect is excluded.
A reasonable solution would be to purchase matte decorated products or clinker cladding for steps.
The latter option includes clay content and sealing ingredients that promote high resistance and durability.
Design work: staircase made of broken tiles
How to lay tiles for steps with your own hands: simple recommendations
There is a video on the topic “how to make semicircular steps” at the end of the article. Below are instructions for installing a porch with your own hands:
After the formwork is erected, the concrete is filled to the level of the cladding. Laying the tiles occurs after the mortar has dried.
Using a building level, the evenness of the surface of the steps is determined: horizontally and vertically.
If you plan to lay out the lining of the round steps of a wooden staircase, it is important to use a spacer partition that is attached to all structural elements. Afterwards, work is carried out on tightness.
Next, you need to take measurements of the entire surface of the porch, make an accurate calculation and go to the store.
Semicircular steps made of tiles require the purchase of related building materials: decorative tiles, dry mortar, tools for laying tiles (trowel, trowel), glue, etc.
Laying ceramic tiles with your own hands in a semicircle is done from top to bottom. After installation, it is not allowed to step on the structure for 24-48 hours.
4 ways to cut tiles
How to cut tiles? 5 popular tools
At the very beginning of the process, the question will arise: how to cut tiles in a semicircle?
There are several ways to cut tiles for a round porch yourself.
- Tile cutter is the most popular method (photo below, as well as photo on the right).
- You can cut the tiles yourself using nippers. But in this way it is not always possible to set the exact shape and chips are possible. With this type of processing, the edges of the product must be smoothed by grinding.
- A ballerina is also suitable for cutting artificial marble. However, it is more often used for metal.
- You can cut slabs into shapes using a grinder with a stone disc. It creates unevenness and working in this way is more labor-intensive. But in terms of ease of use, it outperforms electric tile cutters.

Before this mandatory step, soak the slabs for an hour. This will increase its adhesion to the wall.
Experts most often recommend using a glass cutter.
But for cutting ceramic or clay products, it is possible to use a homemade cutter with carbide tips, a hardened metal scriber, or just a nail.
The metal element is passed several times to form a groove. After this, the tiles are broken. Such cutting is quite labor-intensive and is appropriate for minor repairs and the absence of professional tools.

Creating a semicircular staircase
A brief recommendation on how to lay tiles in a semicircle:
- Clean cracks, depressions and irregularities using thick mortar or primer.
- Apply the sheathing to the wood decking of the porch. It is important to spread the glue with a notched trowel before doing this.
- Experienced craftsmen prefer to glue the tiles onto the spacer.
- Insulate seams and joints from penetration of moisture and dirt.
You need to apply a small amount of mortar at a time, as it dries quickly.
Stages of work on facing steps
Tiling the stairs
The round steps of the porch shown in the photo were faced by applying an adhesive composition to the surface. Excess was removed using a spatula. Clay tiles were laid on top.
Single ensemble - facade and porch
The success of creating the semicircular steps shown in the photo was influenced by the following factors:
Designer tiles
- A high-quality base, impeccably level.
- The correct consistency of the glue solution allows you to make a thin and even layer.
- Using separators (crosses).
- Products were checked for size compliance and absence of defects.
- The cutting was carried out with a special device.
A day after installation, it is necessary to cover the joints of the ceramic panels with grout of a suitable shade.
Interesting ideas
With a little imagination, you can make the ends of the steps for the stairs with your own hands in one design, and the treads in another. The photo on the right shows designer tiles with a rubbed surface, which is very fashionable now.
Looking at the photo or video, it becomes clear that the semicircular shape of the porch is a convenient and beautiful design that can serve as an excellent addition to verandas, terraces or entrance stairs.

2 ways to cut an even circle from metal using an angle grinder
You can cut an even circle from a sheet of metal using an angle grinder (grinder). However, for a better quality cut you will need a device that is easy to make with your own hands.
In this review, the author shows two ways to cut an even circle from metal using an angle grinder.
For the first method, you will need to make a simple rotating stand with a magnet for the grinder.
We recommend reading: a homemade angle grinder for cutting metal workpieces.
Main stages of work
The first step is to make a mount for the grinder. To do this, the author cuts off two metal plates, drills holes in them and attaches them to the gearbox housing using bolts.
After this, you will need to cut another plate and weld it to the first two plates.
Next, the author welds a steel strip to the resulting fastening, the end of which is fixed to the body of the angle grinder using a clamp.
A bolt will need to be welded to the angle grinder mount (in the center of the top plate).
In the next step, the author cuts a piece of a round tube. You need to put a sleeve (from a larger diameter pipe) on the tube with a fixing bolt, and weld nuts to the ends. The author welds two pieces of tube to the bushing.
Next, you need to make another bushing with a lock. It must be welded to a round magnet (can be removed from the old speaker).
Then you can start assembling the device. For convenience, the author screws the handle from the angle grinder into the tube. We install the stand on a sheet of metal, set the desired size and you can cut out a circle.
Turntable manufacturing process
There is also a second way to cut a circle evenly. For this, a previously made rack is used, and it will also be necessary to make a rotating platform.
First, the author cuts a piece of a thick-walled round pipe into which two bearings must be pressed and welded.
After this, a piece of pipe with bearings will need to be welded to a square plate. Four mounting holes must be drilled in the plate.
The author attaches the resulting turntable base to the workbench using bolts.
Next, the author disassembles the second round magnet. A piece of round steel must be welded to the metal plate, the diameter of which is equal to the internal diameter of the bearings in the pipe.
Then the magnet itself needs to be glued back to the plate (the author uses quick-drying glue for this).
The author cuts a circle from a sheet of metal. A magnet with a metal rod is installed in the center. After this, four sections of profile pipe must be welded to the circle.
In each section of the profile you need to drill one hole and then weld the nuts.
The author tightens the bolts into the nuts. Then pieces of a round rod are welded to the bolt heads (you can use square pieces). We insert profile sections of smaller diameter and fix them.
The turntable is attached to a base screwed to the table. The author places a sheet of metal on top, and then installs a stand with a grinder.

How to cut a pipe at an angle
When installing a pipeline, quite often you have to cut the pipe at an angle. Moreover, the angle should have exactly the degree that is needed for the structure.
One of the easiest ways is to mark the corner using a sheet of paper. We fold the square sheet strictly diagonally. We take the pipe and wrap it with a folded page so that the edges of the diagonals are opposite each other.
So, on the smaller side of the page we have an angle of 45 degrees. We take any marking tool and mark the location of the future pipe cut along the line of the page. To prevent the markings from being accidentally erased, you can use narrow tape.
This marking method is convenient for a long pipe of enormous diameter, and the cut point of which is somewhere in the middle.
Using a water container
What should we do if we are dealing with a small-diameter pipe, and we need to cut the pipe at an angle somewhere near the edge? A deep container filled with water will come to the rescue. Before you start working, you need to calculate the angle of inclination and make a mark on the container.
Then all we have to do is carefully lower the edge of the pipe into the water and tilt it towards the mark on the container. We remove the pipe, mark the line of contact with the water, and boldly cut along the markings. This method is optimal when marking a huge number of pipes.
A ready-made template from a container of water will speed up the process of our work.
The girl cut her bra and made a new thing under an open dress: video
Every woman wears a bra. But sometimes it looks bad under a dress with an open back. One friend suggested a great way to solve this problem. Why cut your bra? How practical is this? See for yourself.
Original solution
Bras have been used for thousands of years. Today, this wardrobe staple is available in a variety of forms. Some women, for example, wear strapless bras when they have an off-the-shoulder blouse.
If you have a backless dress or blouse, you can make your bra comfortable with a simple trick. You just need to take the bodice itself, scissors, pins, a needle and thread to match the color of this piece of underwear.
An economical option for creating a convenient thing
Thanks to the simple method proposed in the video, good breast support is provided. This bra is ideal for wearing clothes with an open back. Now you don’t have to choose between beauty and comfort. Here everything is connected, so to speak, “two in one”. More precisely, not connected, but cut off.
To use this original idea, just carefully watch the video below. And, of course, don’t be lazy to sew the straps tightly so that an unforeseen situation does not arise.
Sequencing
Take sharp scissors and cut off the straps at the back and the elastic along the cups.
Only the top strip remains. Its loose end is sewn to the bottom of each cup, positioned slightly away from the center. Closer to the armpit area. To ensure that the straps are sewn evenly, you can first secure them with pins.
Minimum time, no expense, but now you don’t have to worry about how to wear a dress with an open back.
Thanks to the YouTube channel, you can learn many new and useful things. This is one example that makes sense to use.

How to cut a part or product at an angle of 45 degrees
Sometimes you need to cut a particular part or product at a certain angle. As a rule, you need to cut baguettes, fillets, platbands, baseboards and other similar interior elements at an angle of 45 degrees. Anyone can cope with this task. The main thing is not to rush, don’t be nervous and everything will work out.
Buy ready-made corner elements
Of course, the easiest way is not to bother with trimming this or that part, but to buy a ready-made one that does not need processing or trimming. Such parts and elements are sold today everywhere in large supermarkets or smaller stores.
For example, as for baguettes or fillets, special corner elements are sold for them that fit perfectly into the corner and do not need to be trimmed. They just need to be glued into place and pressed well.
Method of joining platbands without trimming
Today, platbands are often not cut at an angle and then joined together, but the joints are made at right angles. This method of connecting platbands does not require any special trimming, which is very convenient. In addition, this method looks more modern and attractive.
Cutting at an angle using a miter box
If you still need to cut this or that part at an angle, then you should stock up on a miter box - a simple device that looks like a small box. The miter box has slots that are designed for a saw or a long sharp knife. Of course, these slots are made to form a smooth and precise 45 degree angle.
However, a miter box can have many slots at once, at different angles. This is convenient because with the help of one device you can trim any parts at different angles.
There are adjustable miter boxes on sale. The slots in such a miter box can be adjusted, which allows the master to set exactly the angle that is required at the moment. In particular, it is quite simple to move the slits of such a miter box to a position of 45 degrees.
Now you can trim the workpiece simply. A baguette, platband or plinth is placed in the miter box, after which a saw is inserted into the slots and the excess is simply cut off. The angle ends up being perfect, exactly 45 degrees.
What to do if there is no miter box? Very simple. You need to make a template according to which it will not be difficult to transfer the necessary markings to the workpieces. As a template, you can choose thick cardboard or anything else that will be appropriate in this case.
Cutting parts at an angle using a protractor
You can cut the part at an angle using a protractor. This is a measuring tool that is easy to use, and which is designed specifically for measuring angles or making the necessary markings on certain parts. The protractor is applied to the part, the angle is marked and the markings are made with a pencil. Using these markings, cutting the workpiece at the desired angle will not be difficult.
Using Templates
If you don’t have a protractor, miter box or ready-made corner elements, you’ll have to look for a suitable template. Of course, the template must have the desired angle. It is applied to the workpiece and the workpiece is marked with a pencil. This is one of the easiest ways to achieve the desired result.
Trimming "on the spot"
The walls, floor and ceiling will not always be perfectly flat in practice. Most often they have irregularities. For this reason, there is no need to cut the workpieces at clear and precise angles, because anyway they will not fit perfectly.
Instead, it is sometimes convenient to trim the same ceiling plinth in place. That is, first they glue one strip of the plinth, trim it in the corner, and cut the second strip under it.
Of course, it is hardly possible to cut the workpiece perfectly. However, if a small gap appears in the corner, it can always be covered with putty or gypsum plaster. Nothing special.
