Steel EI-107 - characteristics, heat treatment
I would like to give this brand of steel the name “folk”. Judge for yourself, more than half of the knives manufactured in Zlatoust come with blades made from EI107. And the point here is not only in its availability. Steel has a number of positive properties that are appreciated by consumers. Let's try to list them along with the disadvantages.
Despite the low carbon content in the composition of 40Х10С2М (only 0.4%), but with proper thermal treatment, it is possible to obtain steel hardness in the range of 57-58 HRC, with good results in wear resistance.
pros
- The price-quality ratio for this steel is optimal. The relatively low cost of knives made from EI-107 allows consumers to purchase truly high-quality blades with good characteristics;
- Steel holds an edge for a long time;
- Resistant to “break” loads with appropriate blade spine thickness;
- Doesn't rust at all.
- It enjoys the attention of hiking enthusiasts; the sharpening is easy to correct in the field, so hunters also speak positively about it.
- Gunsmiths usually make gift weapons from 40Х10С2М. The steel is easily polished and allows you to achieve a simply mirror-like shine.
Minuses
- Of the minuses, we note only one point: If the sharpening angle does not match the work being performed, the cutting edge of the knife may chip when chopping bones or hitting a hard surface.
Chemical composition
knife steel grade 40Х10С2М (EI107)
Silchrome, chromium-silicon steel of martensitic class. Purpose: used in the manufacture of exhaust valves for automobile, tractor and diesel engines, fasteners, grate bars for operation at temperatures of 650-850 degrees Celsius. In relation to welding, steel is difficult to weld.
According to the service conditions, valve steel must be resistant to oxidation, have sufficient hardness to ensure good abrasion resistance, be sufficiently tough and not cause premature fatigue failure due to cyclic and shock operation of the valves. It was these properties that made us pay attention to 40Х10С2М as a material for knife and blade products.
The temperature at which intense scale formation begins in air is 850 degrees Celsius, and is stable in sulfur-containing environments.
When quenched from temperatures above critical, steel 40Х10С2М acquires a martensitic structure with very high hardness, and after annealing - a granular pearlite structure.

Knives made of steel EI-107: characteristics of Zlatoust products
You can walk around the shop windows for months, looking at the products of Zlatoust gunsmiths. Many people like to admire the famous stainless steel knives. At such moments you suddenly begin to think about the quality of weapons metal. And to a greater extent about the characteristics of steel EI-107, used in the manufacture of a large number of knives, dirks and blades in Zlatoust. The history of the emergence of the Zlatoust brand and the advantage of purchasing products from this brand are interesting.
Knives – Zlatoust steel brand
The history of weapons production in Zlatoust began in the 56th year of the 19th century. With the help of several factories concentrated in the Zlatoust district, a full cycle of manufacturing a fairly large assortment of guns was established.
The Russian Empire was in a fever; the army needed everything: from bebuts and sabers to cannons cast in factories. Knives were also very necessary. Then Kolchak’s army needed rifle products, and then the Red Army soldiers.
This is how the glory of Chrysostom began, one of the key pillars of which was knives.
Locally produced blades were presented as gifts to important military personnel and high-ranking persons. Chrysostom's hunting knives are purchased as gifts these days. Giving branded weapons is considered good manners.
In the minds of many people, knives and blades made of stainless steel are considered the best. But blacksmith specialists know that not only this quality distinguishes good products. The quality of the metal directly depends on its structural components: the amount of chemicals and special additives.
Each element has its own effect on the blade material:
- carbon – strengthens;
- manganese and silicon – contribute to better calcination and structuring of the metal, improving the wear resistance of the product;
- chromium – adds resistance to corrosion, but in excess makes the metal brittle;
- vanadium – affects the strength and hardenability of the metal;
- nickel – adds strength and corrosion resistance to the blade;
- molybdenum - in addition to the above properties, adds “elasticity” to the blade and protects it from breakage when bending.
Steel also contains other chemical elements, but you need to remember that not every steel with good properties is suitable for the production of hunting and kitchen knives.
Metal for knives and blades
Steel 40Х10С2М (EI-107) has a number of properties that make it suitable for the production of knives and blades for working (ordinary) purposes.
This metal is a modification of the 40X13 grade, which is considered the most popular today and is used in almost all areas. The chemical composition of EI-107 has been changed quite a bit, but thanks to this, the sharpening of the products is preserved much longer.
Modified steel becomes slightly harder. And the most important argument is that this material has excellent anti-corrosion properties.
This steel is able to successfully withstand many negative environments, withstand critical temperatures and sudden temperature changes. This steel is ideal for making blades for all kinds of applications.
They have a long service life and their prices are relatively low. The positive characteristics of EI-107 steel and its popularity make it possible to call this grade of metal “national”. And the point here is not only in its availability.
Steel has a number of positive properties that are appreciated by consumers.
Tips and tricks
The assortment of Zlatoust knives is large. More than half of them are produced with blades made of EI-107 steel. The characteristics of these knives are such that the manufacturer confidently recommends them to all “hikers” without exception: hunters, fishermen, tourists.
For little money you can buy an excellent, comfortable, high-quality knife that will serve for a long time and reliably. The manufacturer provides a guarantee against manufacturing defects for ten years.
For knives made of the best steel, when sharpening them, it is recommended:
- use water stones and fine-grained diamonds;
- straighten the cutting edge using a belt (leather) and GOI paste;
- maintain the sharpening angle correctly: 30˚ for camping and kitchen use, 40˚ for heavy work.
When purchasing products made from steel grade 40X10S2M, it is recommended to choose brands from well-known manufacturers that guarantee proper hardening, processing and sharpening of the products.
Hunting knives from Zlatoust
When reviewing catalogs of such products, you should pay attention to the possibility of unhindered future use. Sometimes this requires permission from the Ministry of Internal Affairs. You need to understand for whom the knife is being purchased and for what purposes it will be used.
When choosing Zlatoust products, you need to be based on the versatility of the hunting tool. The criteria by which knives are chosen for gifts and collections differ significantly. For practical use, hunting knives are selected based on the requirements for shape, overall blade size and handle shape.
This is due to the convenience, safety and performance of further use.
Description of the knife "Fox"
One of the copies of the Zlatoust company “Zlatprofit” is suitable for hunters, fishermen and tourists. It is made of the best steel for a knife, equipped with a comfortable “non-slip” handle. Handle material to choose from: leather, birch bark, sapele (oak). With the Fox knife it is easy to build a fire pit and cook in a field kitchen. The spine of the blade is straight. Knife length – 26 cm, blade – 14 cm, width – 3 cm.
The knife blade is made in two versions. One of them is forged chrome-silicon steel. She is more popular. The main characteristics of EI-107 steel are excellent cutting qualities of the blade and resistance to corrosion. Textolite is used for the guard and butt plate, as it does not rust. The ornament is made with or without gilding. The application of engravings is discussed with the manager.
The knife comes with a leather sheath, passport, and certificate.
The range of knives manufactured for household use is very impressive. It is clear that not all buyers and do not always look for products in stores only of a certain grade of steel. But for hunters, choosing the “right” knives is simply necessary!

“The best steel for a knife” - we sort it out and test it on a rope!
The question is often asked: “What is the best steel for a knife?” Or the second most popular question: “Can you recommend a universal steel?” There is no clear answer here. What is it better for? For what type of operations? For the kitchen, for daily use or for hunting, for cutting trophies? Let's analyze each situation separately and test six grades of steel on a jute rope.
Sometimes you ask a provocative question to a client about the “best” or “universal” steel, and his answer can be immediately published:
Roman Dorokhov, St. Petersburg
I can't decide which steel is universal. I use the knife for its intended purpose! I have 2 knives: Damascus steel for cutting large game, butchered, washed, sharpened, oiled and put away. And made of stainless steel, for small mining and home life (cutting bread). Any of them can organize a camp in the forest, chop brushwood, birch bark, put up a tent, etc. I like strong and bold knives with a 4mm spine.
And, indeed, the knife, its ergonomics and especially the steel must be selected for each specific case. Many take into account their “sad” experiences from life, for example:
Ignatov Igor, Magadan
They gave me a knife made of tough damask steel. I took it with me fishing. The knife is convenient, beautiful, holds an edge perfectly, but when it got hooked, sharpening it in field conditions turned out to be problematic. I'm sweating!!! If I sharpen a regular stainless steel knife on a cobblestone and continue working, then I still need to think about what sharpening stones to take with me. As far as I know, damask steel is not sharpened with diamond. And most likely, next time I’ll leave this knife at home.
I will say more that many people don’t even bother finding the best steel. Modern steel grades on the market today hold an edge well, withstand fracture loads (with the appropriate thickness of the knife spine) and are resistant to corrosion.
Therefore, the desire to find the coolest steel sometimes results in unnecessary waste of money, and the knife ends up on the shelf.
“The best steel for a knife” - testing some steel grades
Let's sum up the intermediate results. Many modern steel grades have the right to be called “the best steel for a knife.” Subject to the following conditions:
-
- famous manufacturer
- competent hardening
- low speed sharpening
- correct sharpening angle
In principle, all the others follow from the first point. Agree that even the toughest steel, hardened in violation of the conditions, or the cutting edge of a knife “burnt” on a high-speed abrasive wheel will ruin the impression of a good and expensive purchase.
But the last point is more difficult - the sharpening angle must be selected according to the nature and specifics of your cutting work.
But this is a separate topic, and I talked about the sharpening angle in an article for the Zlatoust knives online store, together with which we conducted tests for six steels for cutting hemp rope.
Preparation for testing knives on hemp (jute) rope
Mandatory conditions for testing knives on hemp or jute ropes are:
- knives with the same geometry (one model)
- one sharpening angle
In our test this was observed, and we tested Bekas knives made of steels:
Test of steels on rope: Results (video)
After the tests, I personally concluded that there is no point in overpaying for premium steel. Ordinary modern stainless steels such as 95X18 or 100X13M are ready to cover 98% of the needs of not only the average user, but also the person who uses a knife in everyday or professional affairs.

Steel EI-107 (40Х10С2М) - characteristics
Low-alloy stainless steel belongs to the group of sylchromes - chromium-silicon alloys of the martensitic class. The characteristics of EI-107 steel are characterized by good strength, resistance to oxidation processes, resistance to abrasion and preservation of integrity in case of long-term operation under shock loads. The grade is classified as a difficult-to-weld material, since it intensively forms scale in an air environment already at a temperature of +850 ºC.
Chemical composition of steel EI-107
The standard marking 40Х10С2М indicates the maximum amount of carbon, chromium, silicon and molybdenum as a percentage by volume of the material. The chemical elements included in this low-alloy alloy are determined by the requirements of GOST 5632-72, which provides the compositions of corrosion-resistant, heat-resistant, high-quality steel materials. The description says that the steel contains:
- carbon (C) up to 0.45%;
- chromium (Cr) – 9.5%;
- silicon (Si) – 2.6%;
- molybdenum (Mo) up to 0.7%;
- nickel (Ni) up to 0.6%;
- phosphorus (P), sulfur (S), copper (Cu) and manganese (Mn) not more than 0.3%.
As can be seen from the given composition, steel grade EI-107 contains a small amount of alloying elements and therefore has a relatively low cost. At the same time, it has good resistance to high temperatures and belongs to the group of heat-resistant and heat-resistant alloys. This is achieved due to the increased content of chromium and silicon.
The resistance of steel to high temperatures allows heat treatment with high tempering and the resulting sorbitol with cementite particles on the metal surface. The amount of chromium less than 10% does not allow steel 40Х10С2М to be classified as an absolutely stainless material, especially when in contact with an aggressive environment. However, it should be noted that it has a fairly high resistance to corrosion under normal operating conditions.
The presence of molybdenum reduces the level of temper brittleness, prevents grain enlargement during hardening and promotes the quality of polishing of finished products. Precise adherence to heat treatment technology allows us to achieve a strength level of 57 HRC while maintaining excellent wear resistance.
Heat treatment and welding recommendations
After each heat treatment operation of grade EI-107 or electric arc welding, mandatory annealing of the material is required with heating to +860ºC and subsequent slow cooling in a gradually cooling furnace. The martensitic structure of the metal is achieved as a result of forging at a temperature of 1200-900ºC. To relieve stresses arising as a result of hardening, tempering must be carried out after processing.
When performing welding work, it is recommended to preheat the steel to a temperature of 200ºC. In the case of difficult-to-weld technology, heating to 100ºC is sufficient.
Application of steel EI-107
Due to its resistance to impact loads, temperature and high wear resistance, low-alloy steel 40Х10С2М is used in mechanical engineering for the manufacture of valves for diesel and aircraft engines, furnace grates and conveyors for heat treatment, as well as various fasteners.
The possibility of heat treatment to obtain a structure of fine-grained perlite of high strength allows the production of good quality blades for working knives from this material. At the same time, a distinctive feature of such blades is the ability to polish to a mirror finish, which improves protection against corrosion. The steel holds a sharpened edge well, is easy to sharpen in the field and can withstand fairly large mechanical loads.
It should be noted the relatively low cost of steel, which contributes to the expansion of consumer demand and allows the production of affordable knife products of good quality. They are resistant to fracture loads. Therefore, steel is widely used for knives by hunters, fishermen and tourists. In addition, gift and collectible weapons are often made from it.
When sharpening knives, the edge angle specifications must be strictly observed. For heavy work it is 40 degrees, for lighter work it is 30. Violation of this condition can lead to damage to the integrity of the blade.
Types of supplies
Low alloy steel EI-107 is supplied to the consumer in the form of a square or round rod, a steel circle of various diameters, strips or castings in accordance with the dimensions issued by the customer.
With a strip length of less than one meter and a width of up to 250 mm, the material is sold individually and used as knife steel. Therefore, strip steel can be pre-processed in the villa with a pre-beveled edge of the blade, which is subject to blacksmith forging.
In other cases, material supplies are carried out by weight.

Knife steels: Russia
Some of the well-known steels that are widely used in the global knife industry were once created in Russia.
Steel with the designation 40Х10С2М (EI-107)
At its core, this is a modification of another well-known steel 40X13, while the changes in composition are very small, but as a result the user receives a blade with a more stable sharpening.
Most of all, 40Х10С2М (EI-107) is used to create bladed knife tools that require a high impact load (for example, a machete). This is due to the fact that such steel has a certain combination of hardness and toughness. It is also extremely wear-resistant and easy to manufacture. All this allows it to be used in the mass production of knives.
Steel with designation 65Х13
Highly alloyed and corrosion-resistant steel 65X13 today successfully holds a leading position according to the criterion of “the most popular in production.” The thing is that it is used not only in the knife industry, but also for medical purposes in the manufacture of scalpels and various instruments.
Steel 65X13 itself has low hardness and dulls quickly. There are gunsmiths who know how to bring this steel to normal hardness, acceptable for use in tourist knives. But such masters are rare. However, this is real stainless steel, which never deteriorates due to corrosion.
Steel with designation 95Х18
95X18 is a complex alloyed structural stainless steel. It is resistant to various types of corrosion, including in aggressive environments. As a knife steel, 95X18 is very common, since after the necessary heat treatment and hardening it easily acquires high cutting qualities.
As for the hardness of the resulting steel, if the alloy is brought to 57 to 59 units on the Rockwell scale, then the other qualities of the blade will be very harmonious. And if the alloy ends up having 60-61 Hrc, then such a blade will become brittle.
Steel with the designation 100Х13М
Chrome-molybdenum steel 100Х13М martensitic class was originally developed as steel for cutting tools and is very actively used in knife production.
This material contains chromium in an amount that suggests high anti-corrosion properties. The steel also contains molybdenum, which adds strength when compared with 95X18.
In addition, thanks to the same molybdenum, 100X13M has very good impact strength and hardness of 59 Hrc and above. Moreover, products made from this steel can easily be sharpened at home.
All this makes this steel one of the most popular materials in the production of high-end kitchen and chef's knives.
Steel with the designation X12MF
Alloy die steel X12MF contains additives of chromium, nickel, vanadium and many others. Hunters and tourists greatly value knives whose blades are made of this steel, since the X12MF holds the cutting edge perfectly. True, specialized tools are needed to edit such knives. Moreover, such a knife does not actually rust, but the blade may darken if it is left in an acidic environment for a long time.
If X12MF steel was prepared correctly and the heat treatment process was not disrupted, then the resulting material does not crumble or chip, and its hardness is 59-60 Hrc.
Steel with the designation X12MF, thermally cycled
Thermally cycled Kh12MF steel, which has undergone cyclic heating and subsequent cooling in the range of 48 to 60 hours, has higher corrosion resistance and strength. And when sharpening such steel, a microsaw is formed, which increases its ability to preserve the cut.
Steel with the designation ZD1407 (alloy U10A and X12MF)
One type of composite high-carbon steel (Damascus) with medium alloying, ZD1407, is also widely used in the manufacture of knives for hunters. And the point here is not only that when sharpening a blade made from this alloy, a microsaw is also formed, but also that such steel has excellent elasticity and hardness.
However, due to the high carbon content, the finished product made from ZD1407 requires specialized care.
Steel with designation ZDI1016
Another high-carbon, but already highly alloyed weather-resistant composite steel (also known as a type of stainless Damascus) with the letter designation ZDI1016 is successfully used in the manufacture of not only hunting, but also collectible knives and tools.
But unlike its possible analogues, this steel actually does not require maintenance, since it contains alloys 60Х14 and 140Х18. This property, as well as high cutting qualities, impact resistance and hardness of the blade, ensured this steel a place not only among the world's best steels, but also the title of one of the most expensive materials.
All these steels have become widespread not only in the manufacture of knives in Russia, but also abroad. Many of these materials are actively used in their work by world-famous blacksmiths.

- Ni (nickel) – 0.5%
Found in the alloy in small quantities:
The material is supplied to manufacturing plants in square sheets or in the form of round rods . If the length of a metal strip is up to a meter, it is sold in pieces for the production of knives. This material must be pre-heated to form the blade. The martensitic structure is created by forging. For other production needs, material is shipped by weight.
When a finished knife comes into the hands of the user, he must sharpen it correctly so as not to damage the integrity of the blade. The edge angle from 30 to 40 degrees varies depending on the severity of the work being performed.
Alloying elements created a low price for the metal , and chromium and silicon added heat resistance. High strength is achieved by heat treatment, so special-purpose knives with sharp blades are made from steel. The blades are polished to enhance corrosion protection. The sharpened edge lasts a long time, such a knife is easy to sharpen in any conditions, and they withstand force well.
Pros or what advantages does the alloy for knives have?
EI 107 was received after the improvement of the 40Х13-Х12Ф1 brand. This is also knife steel, but it was used to make kitchen or souvenir items. After minor modification, a metal was produced that could remain sharpened for a long time. The raw materials have become much harder with improved anti-corrosion properties, which are resistant to negative environments, and items made from them last a long time. Hardness was achieved by proper heat treatment.
As a result of research developments, steel 40Х10С2М was highly appreciated by users:
- The quality of knives is identified with the optimal price . At a low price, the consumer receives a tool with a good sharp blade that does not bend or break from mechanical stress.
- A sharpened blade remains in an unchanged condition for a long time and does not become dull.
- If you put the point on a butt with a thickness appropriate for its purpose, it will be stable against breaking load .
- The cutting part does not rust .
- The blade is easily sharpened in difficult conditions - on a camping trip or while hunting.
- Thanks to its mirror-like polishing, the material is suitable for making gift weapons .
- The lack of fragility allows you to keep the blade without chips or breakages.
The low cost of the metal made it possible to expand consumer demand for raw materials and products made from them.
What are the disadvantages of the alloy?
All the combined properties of the metal, its combination of viscosity and hardness have become the reason to attract the attention of industrial sectors and gunsmiths. But there are no alloys without negative aspects.
Experts include the following disadvantages of the 40Х10С2М brand:
- Difficult to weld.
- Mandatory observance of the accuracy of the sharpening angle , if a violation occurs, the cutting edge will begin to crumble from excessive mechanical loads - bone cutting, impacts on hard wood.
- Requirement for the use of knife care products
- The hardness parameter depends on the correct heat treatment of the metal by the manufacturer; errors are possible.
Any item requires good care to prolong its service life. Knives are no exception.
What do fishermen and hunters recommend?
A knife with a steel blade made of 40Х10С2М alloy is not expensive, but will serve for a long time as an indispensable assistant in the forest and in nature . Although, if you stop sharpening or polishing the blade in a timely manner, it will lose not only its appearance, but also the properties of the metal that the developers gave it.
EI 107 steel needs to be properly sharpened not only with fine-grained diamonds, but also to care for the cutting edge. Correct it with a leather belt or GOI paste. The blade is sharpened at a 40 degree angle for heavy duty work. 30 degrees will be enough for kitchen needs.
You need to buy any product from a reputable manufacturer, then you can avoid counterfeit alloys, but still get a guarantee of high-quality hardening and processing . In addition to Zlatoust, there is a company famous for weapons production there; a similar alloy is produced in the following countries:
- European Union.
- Germany.
- France.
- Spain.
- Italy.
- China.
- Japan.
- America.
Solid material:
- Difficult to process.
- It will serve for a long time.
- Under heavy load, chipping may occur.
Gunsmiths have an unwritten rule that the cutting part material must comply with, which includes:
- Complex components.
- Impurities of different contents.
Products made from such metals are usually expensive.
An example of this is Damascus steel ; blades made from it are known in the world as standard. No one will use these tools for cutting vegetables or meat. When they choose a good hunting knife, they will work with it, it has no place to show off in the collection.
Therefore, the metal for it goes through heat treatment in order to:
- Don't be dumb.
- Do not be excessively soft.
- Don't rust.
Such criteria are present in steel sheets 40Х10С2М. If the blade is made from it, it will not fail on a difficult hike.

XB5 steel for knives pros and cons
Articles about knives » XB5 steel for knives pros cons
The scientific name of XB5 steel is chrome tungsten - in the abbreviation XB, it received another name - diamond steel, because it has a high degree of hardness. XB5 steel for knives, pros and cons will be discussed in this article.
XB5 steel is very difficult to machine because it is considered one of the hardest types of steel.
That is why this steel is widely used in mechanical engineering, petrochemical, food, medical and aerospace industries, and is also used in the production of tools of complex configurations, such as knives.
The blade has high cutting properties and is able to maintain an edge for a long time. Rockwell hardness ranges from 65 to 67 units. This indicator is very similar to the diamond one. However, it is not correct to compare the hardness of diamond and XB5 steel. The knives are practically not dull and can cut high-hard materials.
The composition includes alloying elements: carbon, chromium and tungsten. Carbon is part of all steels. It is the main element influencing the hardness and rigidity of steel. It is believed that if the carbon content is more than 0.5%, then such steel is considered high-carbon. Diamond steel contains quite a lot of carbon – up to 1.45%.
Tungsten in steel makes it high-speed and stainless.
Advantages of steel for XB5 knives
- High hardness - a blade made of this steel holds an edge for a long time
- Cutting qualities
- Relatively inexpensive price
The composition of chrome tungsten steel was created over 200 years ago. Initially, platinum was used to make it, but later it was replaced by tungsten.
The mass was melted and placed in a cast iron mold in a melting furnace, where there was no access to oxygen. The temperature was raised to 1500 degrees. Then it was cooled in cold water. When the end of the smelting came to an end, the piece of steel was broken into smaller pieces, and the master selected the piece he needed.
In this way, high-strength steel was obtained, capable of cutting even iron, without becoming dull or breaking at all.
Diamond steel indicates a high degree of quality of the blade. Any hunter/trademan must have a blade with diamond steel in his arsenal. He is able to faithfully serve his owner for many years.
Thus, diamond steel knives have many advantages: they have a beautiful appearance, they have a long service life, have good sharpening, do not become dull for a long time, have high strength, do not rust, excellent cutting ability and high-quality manufacturing.
Cons of steel for XB5 knives
- Elimination of lateral loads on the blade
- Low corrosion resistance
- Hard to sharpen steel in the field
The only disadvantages include their high price and difficult processing. There are many diamond steel knives on the edged weapons market. All models are different in appearance, and most importantly, in the strength of the blades.
However, it should be noted that any of the selected samples will be worthy of being in the collection of bladed weapons of amateur collectors. Most often, individual specimens are decorated with artistic casting, which affects its significance and, accordingly, its cost. The handles are made from expensive wood or bone. Or there may be an engraving depicting hunting scenes or military actions.
If you need to give an original and memorable gift to a dear person, it is a diamond steel knife that will be truly appreciated by the recipient.

What steel can be considered the best for a knife. What does a buyer need to know?
In the minds of many people, knives and blades made of stainless steel are considered the best. But blacksmith specialists know that not only this quality distinguishes good products. The quality of the metal directly depends on its structural components: the amount of chemicals and special additives.
Each element has its own effect on the blade material:
- carbon – strengthens;
- manganese and silicon – contribute to better calcination and structuring of the metal, improving the wear resistance of the product;
- chromium – adds resistance to corrosion, but in excess makes the metal brittle;
- vanadium – affects the strength and hardenability of the metal;
- nickel – adds strength and corrosion resistance to the blade;
- molybdenum - in addition to the above properties, adds “elasticity” to the blade and protects it from breakage when bending.
Steel also contains other chemical elements, but you need to remember that not every steel with good properties is suitable for the production of hunting and kitchen knives.
H91 (leather handle, aluminum backplate and guard)
The geometry of the H91 knife combines the classic and dagger (spear-shaped) shape or spear-point, and this combination gives enormous advantages when using the knife.
The relatively thick, smoothly concave spine of the H91 knife model creates a comfortable rest for the thumb, which increases the reliability of the knife in certain types of work, especially when cutting “pull.”
The main “working” blade is formed by razor blades, which significantly reduces weight while maintaining the rigidity of the blade, and the long fullers above the rib on the shank also contribute to this. The reverse, short blade allows you to make a cut towards the butt, which significantly increases the functionality of the H91 knife.
The blade is made of EI107 steel.
The blade's tang runs along the entire length of the handle.
Stainless tool steel EI-107 is very popular among manufacturers of knives and bladed weapons. When properly hardened, this grade of steel has an excellent combination of properties that a knife needs, the main ones being hardness, toughness and rigidity of the blade. The steel lends itself well to sharpening in the field and at home, and the blade does not crumble or become dull for a long time.
Each knife comes with a leather sheath. In case of loss, wear or damage to the scabbard, you can buy new ones from us.
The product meets the requirements of GOST R 51644-2000 “Cutting and skinning knives. General technical conditions" with amendment No. 1 (86-ST) dated July 1, 2005.
