What are the dimensions of galvanized sheet

Weight of galvanized sheets according to GOST and its calculation, dimensions of profiled sheets

Metal products exposed to aggressive environments are treated with protective coatings. One type of such coating is treating the surface of the product with a layer of zinc. Static surfaces that do not have mechanical contacts with other moving parts are subject to galvanization.

Any product made of iron tends to oxidize under the influence of oxygen - to rust. The loose crust of iron oxides does not block the access of oxygen to the metal and the destruction process is irreversible.

The oxidation process of other metals - tin, zinc, aluminum - occurs differently. The film of oxidized metal compounds has a very dense structure and does not allow oxygen to pass through.

When iron combines with zinc, a galvanic couple is formed in which zinc is more active. It enters the oxidation process first, creating a protective film. The access of oxidizing agents to iron is stopped and the process of destruction of iron does not occur. Galvanized sheet metal is produced based on these properties of zinc and iron.

How to calculate weight?

When producing galvanized steel, many parameters are taken into account. Each of these parameters has a tolerance in value established by the corresponding GOST. Calculate the theoretical weight of the sheet or 1 sq. m. possible if you have accurate data on the parameters provided by the manufacturer.

Calculations are made using the formula – m = m 1 + m 2 .

Value m1= T1*L1*H1*P1 where:

  • T1 – thickness of the sheet metal; if the actual sheet is measured, it is necessary to subtract the thickness of the zinc layer from this value;
  • L1 – sheet length;
  • Н1 – sheet width;
  • P1 – iron density coefficient –7.85 t/m3;

Value m2= T2*L2*H2*P2 where:

  • T2 – thickness of zinc coating, data is in the accompanying documentation for the product batch;
  • L2 is the length of the zinc-coated surface;
  • Н2 – width of the coated surface;
  • Р2 – zinc density – 7.13 t/m3;

The thickness of the zinc coating can be measured with the MT-635 device.

To determine the weight of galvanized sheets, various tables are used, calculated on average data. They allow you to quickly determine the weight of one square meter, the weight of a sheet of a given size, and the weight of the entire batch.

Online weight calculators may be posted on the websites of manufacturers and trade organizations. After entering the parameters, they calculate the weight of the product batch.

Application area

Galvanized sheet metal combines all the positive qualities of ordinary metal, plus long-term anti-corrosion protection with zinc.

The ability to produce stamped, bent, drawn products, and apply decorative coatings to their surfaces allows the widespread use of galvanized sheets in such areas as:

  1. Construction – profiles of various configurations and purposes. Elements of air ducts, drainage and drainage systems. Fencing, facade structures, roofing.
  2. Mechanical engineering.
  3. Food industry – housings for various equipment.
  4. Automotive industry.
  5. Medicine.
  6. Manufacturing of consumer goods.
  7. Manufacturing of household appliances.

Products made from galvanized sheets are durable, lightweight, easy to install, and last a long time.

Manufacturing technology

Galvanized sheets are produced by galvanizing sheet metal.

To apply an anti-corrosion layer of zinc, several galvanizing methods are used:

Hot

The technological process occurs in two stages:

  1. Surface preparation – degreasing, acid etching, washing, flux treatment, drying;
  2. Galvanizing - the prepared metal product is immersed in a special bath of molten zinc. A layer of iron-zinc compound is formed on the surface of the part, which prevents corrosion of the steel. The hot-dip galvanizing process produces a layer of protective coating in white or gray matte color. Layer thickness from 40 to 200 microns. The zinc layer has a dense structure and good adhesion to the surface of the product.

Galvanic

Obtaining coating by electrolysis.

Technological process:

  1. Preparation of the surface of the product - cleaning and degreasing, etching, washing. The surface must be free of any type of contamination.
  2. Application of zinc occurs in a special container with electrolyte. The electrolyte can be either acidic or alkaline. Zinc is present in the electrolyte in the form of a salt solution or is an anode material. The workpiece serves as the cathode. When passing direct current through the electrolyte, zinc from the solution or anode is deposited on the cathode.

Galvanic galvanizing produces very thin, shiny coatings. With this method, it is possible to coat the internal surfaces of parts with zinc.

The formation of sagging and roughness is excluded. The thickness of the possible coating layer is from 10 to 50 microns. The method is used for galvanizing rolled sheets, wire, and parts with complex profiles. The process does not require elevated temperatures.

In terms of the quality of the applied coating, the hot-dip galvanizing method is the best.

Dimensions and classification of galvanized sheet

Galvanized sheets are produced in several types:

  1. Sheet in rolls . Roll width from 710 to 1800 mm. Sheet thickness is from 0.3 to 3.0 mm. Sheet length from 4000 to 6000 mm.
  2. The leaf is smooth . The standard sheet has dimensions −1250*2500 mm. By cutting from rolled material, you can get a sheet of any size.
  3. Corrugated sheet . Width from 920 to 1150 mm. Length from 2000 to 2500 mm.
  4. Corrugated sheeting . Width from 800 to 1200 mm. Length from 2000 to 2500 mm.

The production of galvanized sheets is carried out in accordance with the requirements of GOST 14918-80. Technical characteristics of galvanized sheet steel are given below.

Depending on the purpose, galvanized sheets are divided into groups:

  • for cold stamping - XIII must be indicated on the sheets;
  • for cold profiling - abbreviated as HP;
  • for painting - shortened to PC;
  • general purpose - OH.

Galvanized sheets for cold stamping in accordance with the standard are:

  • normal hood - N;
  • deep drawing - G;
  • very deep drawing - VG.

Manufacturers offer zinc-coated sheets that vary in thickness uniformity:

  • steel with normal thickness variations is marked as HP;
  • steel with reduced thickness variations is marked as UR.

Depending on the thickness, the sheet is classified into one of three classes:

  • P (increased) - thickness over 40 microns and up to 60 microns inclusive;
  • Class I - coating thickness more than 18 microns and up to 40 microns inclusive;
  • Class II - the coating thickness must be at least 10 microns and up to 18 microns inclusive.

Galvanizing can be done on one side or on both sides. Double-sided improves anti-corrosion parameters, increases the resistance of the material to mechanical damage and changes that usually occur during further processing of the sheet.

Galvanizing: basic requirements for material quality

In accordance with the standards, strict requirements are imposed on the sheet. The surface of the material must be smooth, clean, and the coating must be continuous. Cracks and torn edges with a depth greater than the maximum deviations in width are excluded.

If you look at sheets intended for cold stamping (CS), cold profiling (CP) and general purpose (ON), then small sagging, scratches, and abrasions are allowed on their surface, provided that the damage does not disturb the uniformity of the coating. Sheets for painting may have spots of dark shades, fold marks, faint scratches and sagging. The weight of a sheet of metal can be calculated using a metal rolling calculator.

Galvanized sheet - dimensions and price, corrugated galvanized sheet

Not a single type of industry can do without some kind of metal products - one of them is galvanized steel sheet.

What is galvanized sheet

A galvanized sheet is a flat, thin metal product coated with a protective layer of zinc, which protects the base from corrosion. Various iron alloys and steel of various grades are used as a base.

To produce a galvanized product, cold-rolled steel is used, which is passed through industrial equipment to obtain the desired shape.

The protective coating is obtained by:

  1. Hot-dip galvanizing - the coating is obtained by dipping a sheet into a container with molten zinc. This method is the most economical, allowing you to create an effective protective layer that significantly improves the technical properties of the material. The coating thickness will be 70250 microns. The surface will be smooth or have a pronounced crystallization pattern. The coating can be applied to one or both sides of the product. Raw materials of grades Ts1 or Ts0 are used.
  2. Galvanization is a method of applying a protective layer by electrochemical reactions occurring in electrolytic baths. The zinc thickness will be 512 microns. The sheet turns out to be more flexible, able to withstand plastic deformations. But this method is more expensive compared to hot galvanizing.

Reason for corrosion resistance

Galvanized products can be compared to a composite material that has electrochemical cathodic protection in the iron-zinc pair. The light metal, acting as an anode, takes on oxidative reactions and gradually breaks down, thereby protecting the base metal. In addition, zinc itself has high chemical resistance to atmospheric influences, so its service life is quite long.

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages of galvanized steel:

  • high corrosion resistance;
  • preservation of strength characteristics by the base metal;
  • sufficient plasticity for the production of bent profiles without peeling off the protective layer;
  • high economic effect from the protective galvanizing method;
  • durability of products;
  • light weight.

Flaws:

  • low strength of the surface layer - in case of mechanical damage, a growing corrosion center is formed, which, if not noticed and eliminated in time, will cause a complete replacement of the product;
  • zinc coating cannot be used in aggressive environments - in the presence of inorganic acids and their salts;
  • limitation on temperature application - the melting point of zinc is 420.460°C.

Dimensions and classification

Galvanized products are available in two types:

Roll

It is rolled steel several tens of meters long, wound into a roll. The average width is 1250 mm. The metal thickness is in the range of 0.24 mm. Roll winding is convenient for use in automated processes for the production of similar products.

Sheet

Available in a width of 12.5 meters. The thickness is 0.353 mm. Length 16 meters. The size is selected for a specific type of production of any industrial product in order to reduce the amount of waste.

Rolling is carried out in accordance with GOST 14918-80 from carbon cold-rolled steel.

Classification

Purpose:

    • cold stamping;
    • cold profiling;
    • general purpose;
    • for painting.

Drawability:

  • normal hood;
  • deep drawing;
  • very deep draw.

Uniformity of zinc coating thickness:

  • normal thickness variation;
  • reduced thickness variation.

Rolling precision:

  • normal accuracy;
  • increased accuracy.

By appearance:

  • with a crystallization pattern;
  • without crystallization pattern.

Coating thickness:

  • increased class - coating thickness is 4060 microns;
  • 1 class, – coating 1840 microns;
  • Class 2, – coating 1018 microns.

Flatness:

  • high flatness;
  • improved flatness;
  • normal.

One of the most popular areas for using galvanized sheets is the production of corrugated products.

Corrugated Galvanized Sheet

Corrugated sheet (corrugated sheet), corrugated sheet - a type of industrial product that is a wavy profile. In appearance it is very reminiscent of the well-known asbestos-cement roofing slate.

The corrugation is a continuous sinusoid; due to this shape, there are no points of mechanical stress in the bending areas, where the process of structural destruction is most likely. At the same time, this shape of the sheet profile significantly increases rigidity, especially in the transverse sinusoidal direction.

This type of product has found wide application:

  • roofing material for industrial and civil facilities;
  • arrangement of public transport parking complexes;
  • construction of hangars for various purposes and many other structures.

Corrugated sheet has a number of certain advantages:

  • low cost compared to other roofing materials;
  • high lateral rigidity;
  • light weight of the product;
  • high corrosion resistance;
  • weather resistant;
  • long service life;
  • not flammable;
  • Corrugated sheet is convenient when performing installation work.

In addition to the protective galvanized coating, the product is covered with decorative polymer or paint coatings, this provides additional protection for the entire corrugated sheet and increases the aesthetic perception of the entire structure as a whole.

The sizes of corrugated sheets are in the range:

  • width is 900-1250 mm;
  • thickness 0.31 mm;
  • length 0.56.5 meters.

When installing corrugated products as a fence (fence) or roofing material, no special knowledge or skills are required. It is enough to own a hammer, screwdriver and other common construction tools. Installation of corrugated sheets is very similar to working with ordinary asbestos-cement slate.

Estimated cost

The cost of the final product is affected by:

  • cost of the starting material - rolled steel;
  • zinc cost;
  • costs of coating method and other economic factors.

A very important point is the quality of the product, which entirely depends on the manufacturer and production culture, for example, a smooth galvanized sheet 1250 mm wide costs:

  • thickness 0.4 mm, price 150,160 rub/m²;
  • thickness 1.0 mm, price RUB 320,380/m²;
  • thickness 1.5 mm, price 500,560 rub/m²;
  • thickness 2.0 mm, price 670,720 rub/m².

A high-quality galvanized product must be produced in accordance with the requirements of technical documentation, in particular, according to GOST 14918-80, in compliance with the entire technological chain.

Galvanized sheet - characteristics

Galvanized sheet is a product made of thin-sheet cold-rolled or pickled hot-rolled coil or sheet steel with a protective zinc or iron-zinc layer.

Such metal products are resistant to many types of corrosion and can withstand bending, drawing, stamping, and rolling. Areas of application: construction, mechanical engineering, household purposes.

GOST R 52246-2004 regulates the dimensions: the width of the galvanized sheet is in the range of 700-1800 mm, the roll is 500-1800 mm, the thickness together with the coating thickness is 0.3-4.5 mm.

Types and applications of galvanized sheets

These metal products are used both as an independent building material and as a semi-finished product for subsequent processing. Depending on the planned area of application, according to GOST 14918-80, the following categories of sheets are produced:

  • for cold stamping – ХШ ;
  • for cold profiling – KhP ;
  • for painting - PC ;
  • general purpose – OH .

According to GOST R 52246-2004, this classification is different:

  • sheet 01 is used in the production of flat and curved products;
  • for tableware and production of products by bending and locking – 02;
  • for complex profiles and very deep-drawn stamped products – 03;
  • for stamped products of complex drawing - 04, especially complex drawing - 05, very complex drawing - 06;
  • for profiled products, grades 220, 250, 280, 320, 350 are used.

Currently, both standards are in force, but the second is more modern, it is characterized by clearer and stricter requirements for products.

Galvanized sheets are used to make corrugated sheeting, which is in demand in construction and is used for fencing, external wall cladding, and roofing. This material is also used in the production of bent forms: profiles for ventilated facades , drainage and smoke exhaust systems.

According to GOST R 52246-2004, the protective coating is divided into the following types according to its appearance and crystallization pattern:

  • with a normal zinc crystallization pattern - N and ND (trained);
  • with a minimal zinc crystallization pattern - M and MD (trained);
  • iron-zinc – ZhTs and ZhtsD (trained).

The performance characteristics of galvanized sheets are largely determined by the thickness of the protective coating. The thicker it is, the higher the corrosion resistance, but the risk of zinc shedding during cold forming and cold stamping increases. A high-class coating is used for rolled products, used without an additional coloring layer.

Weight of galvanized steel sheet

When calculating the weight of a sheet with a protective zinc coating, the full thickness of the sheet (together with the coating), its length and width are taken into account.

Galvanized sheet steel: GOST 14918 90, classification and methods of application, methods of coating

The use of zinc coating on the surface of steel is due to its ability to protect the metal and products made from it from corrosion. Galvanized steel sheet GOST 14918 80 is a material effectively used in production and construction.

Convenient, reliable and practical, it can withstand certain operating loads and harmful environmental conditions.

Due to its lightness, galvanized steel is used as a roofing covering, since it does not weigh down the structure and does not require the installation of an additional base or reinforcement of foundations.

When metal is exposed to oxygen, it oxidizes, causing a thin layer of film to appear on the surface of the structure. Certain materials, such as tin, zinc, and aluminum form a resistant layer that protects the metal from oxygen.

In iron, the hydroxide films formed on the surface have a loose and voluminous structure.

This formation is called rust, because instead of protection, the layer is separated from the surface in the form of cakes and flakes, and the corrosion process continues constantly and the structure is destroyed.

Thinning of parts leads to a decrease in load-bearing capacity, strength, reduces the fit of elements to each other, as a result, the workload of neighboring units and parts increases. Metal containers and reservoirs lose their tightness and collapse. It becomes obvious that it is impossible to use ferrous metal without a protective film; it is necessary to create a barrier for the access of water and oxygen to the surface.

Film application methods

The method of painting finished products is often used, but the method is considered short-lived and not always effective. An effective solution is to apply a zinc film, which protects the surface from destruction. The zinc layer is applied in several ways:

  • the cold method involves applying zinc in a painting-type manner; it is used quite rarely in modern production;
  • galvanic processing of sheets consists of treating the surface of steel in zinc-containing electrolyte solutions;
  • The hot galvanizing method is the most common due to the subsequent preservation of the specified qualities for a long time.

Hot galvanized metal is produced from the conveyor in accordance with GOST 14918–80. Galvanized sheet is obtained by drawing in a bath of molten solution containing zinc; steel grades 08Yu, 10kp, 08kp, 08ps and others are used. In addition to zinc, the composition of the applied alloy includes lead, aluminum and other metals that are resistant to oxygen and moisture.

Before the working process, the solution is heated to a temperature of 455−485˚С, this creates conditions for good wetting and subsequent adhesion, thus the film becomes one with the body of the sheet. The hot drawing method creates a thicker protective layer compared to the galvanic method.

Galvanized sheet GOST receives a predicted durability than one painted with a simple application; the film does not crack or form cracks under permissible bends. In the case of an aggressive environment, the zinc layer is the first to react, leaving the metal intact, preventing corrosion.

Sheet classification

Depending on the method of obtaining the material and its purpose, zinc-coated steel is divided into groups:

  • general purpose galvanized material;
  • cold-formed zinc-coated steel;
  • cold polished galvanization;
  • galvanized for further paint coating.
THIS IS INTERESTING:  What is welding camping

In the process of manufacturing parts and blanks from it, galvanized material is subjected to stamping and bending , both methods do not violate the integrity of the sheet. High anti-corrosion properties allow the material to be used in the production of household appliances, construction, pipe rolling, and the automotive industry.

The use of galvanizing in the construction industry is especially important. After galvanizing, the material is painted with polymer dyes and compositions based on epoxy resin in molten furnaces. Polymer-coated steel serves as the basis for the production of roofing and wall materials, the benefits of which become obvious.

Corrugated sheeting, metal tiles, roofing steel - these are the names of lightweight, durable and practical roofing coverings for modern cottages. In addition to roofing work, galvanization is used for the manufacture of:

  • metal decorative picket fence;
  • when installing seam roofs as a picture;
  • water pipes;
  • strip - long-rolled tape;
  • mounting profiles for plasterboard, euroboards, plastic and other wall coverings;
  • perforated fasteners and various brackets;
  • roofing aprons, linings, elements of gutters, ridges, valleys and other auxiliary parts of the roof;
  • ventilation ducts;
  • adjustable trays for cables in electrical engineering, instrument housings, devices, etc.

Advantages and disadvantages

Corrugated sheeting in the form of roofing is cheap enough that it can be used for construction by the general public. The ease of installation on rafter structures allows even a beginner to do this. The advantages of the material include:

  • long service life compared to ordinary metal, the service life of galvanized sheets is calculated in tens of years without changing not only the qualities, but also the appearance of the product;
  • savings on compositions for paint and varnish treatment - the sheet is installed in some cases without painting, since its coating is resistant to humidity and heating by the sun;
  • the zinc coating on the metal surface is firmly connected to the central layer; when bending, stamping, or stretching, the zinc layer does not break off and remains inseparable;
  • often the strength indicators of the covering layer exceed these values for the inner layer of steel, therefore the load perception in the complex increases;
  • zinc coating on the metal complies with environmental standards and is safe for humans and animals;
  • zinc has the property of healing the smallest scratches on the surface and in places where fastening hardware passes, as well as in places of cuts;
  • galvanized products are lower than the same parts made of stainless steel;
  • The metallized matte surface of the material has an attractive appearance and is used in some design developments without painting.

The disadvantages of galvanizing can be considered conditional:

  • with each year of operation, the microscopic thickness of the layer is lost;
  • galvanized sheet is not welded;
  • Painting galvanized surfaces with paints and varnishes requires a preparatory process.

Galvanizing GOST provides indicators that transfer sheets to one or another quality category - this can be specified in the accompanying documents. It is important for the buyer that the appearance of the material does not contain surface flaws or integrity violations.

The surface of the steel should be smooth and even, without cracks in the zinc layer. Sometimes, for some brands of material, the formation of spots, thin sagging and roughness on the surface is allowed. It belongs:

  • to galvanization obtained by cold stamping;
  • profiled sheets made on bending devices;
  • material belonging to the general purpose group.

For other categories of galvanized steel there should be no defects during visual inspection; defects in the form of nicks are especially unacceptable. If the material is intended for painting, then there should be no signs of defects . Any crack affects the quality of the final product.

Production of galvanized metal

In order to obtain sheet material with a galvanized top layer under production conditions, it is coated with grade zinc using a special technology. The protective film is applied on both sides or on one. Coatings of different thicknesses are used depending on the area of further application and the expected conditions of oxygen and humidity exposure.

Specialized equipment has been developed for hot galvanizing, the most popular production method. The galvanic method and cold galvanizing are used quite rarely, since the quality of both methods leaves much to be desired. The application of the zinc layer occurs in several stages:

  • First, the steel sheet is fired in ovens at high temperatures;
  • to increase the metal’s resistance to corrosion processes, it is placed at the second stage of processing in a bath with molten zinc composition;
  • then conservation is done to improve the protective function of the zinc layer, this is done using oiling, passivation, sometimes these operations are combined with each other.

As a result of the production process, in compliance with all technological cycles, a corrosion-resistant material is obtained in the form of a sheet, which is subsequently perfectly stamped, rolled, bent and stretched without compromising the initial qualities. The resulting galvanized sheet can be easily compared to stainless steel .

GOST standards apply to sheet material and those produced in rolls. The purpose of the material may be different, regardless of whether the cold-rolled sheet is used for the production of household utensils or used as a roofing material. The standards provide for the following sheet sizes when issued:

  • width varies from 70 to 150 cm;
  • metal thickness can range from 0.4 mm to 1.5 cm.

Types of raw materials

Various grades of steel are used for the manufacture of galvanizing, but the main ones are:

  • steel St3, St1 and St2, 100, and all degrees of deoxidation are used in accordance with GOST 380–1994;
  • GOST 9045–1993 allows for production 08kp, 08ps, 08Yu;
  • GOST 1050–1988 recommends Yukp steel.

Steel categories

Galvanized metal is divided according to its ability to stretch without creating surface defects:

  • category H is assigned to material with normal drawing ability;
  • category G is capable of deep drawing to obtain average indicators;
  • The VG category includes galvanized sheets with a quality that allows them to stretch very deeply.

The classification of zinc sheet also affects the difference in the thickness of the protective layer along the length or width of the sheet obtained during the production process:

  • HP indicates a normal difference in layer thickness.
  • UR indicates a reduced difference in thickness on the surface.

At the customer's request, a crystallization pattern can be made on the surface of the zinc layer (KR series). Sheets of material without such application are classified as the Mt series.

Steel with a galvanized protective layer is also divided depending on the thickness of the resulting protective coating:

  • high-grade steel has a weight of one square meter of layer with a coating thickness in microns from 60 to 40 on both sides of the sheet of 850−570 grams;
  • high-class, with a thickness in microns from 40−19, the square layer weighs 570−260 grams;
  • the usual class assumes a square coating with a thickness of 10 to 18 microns in 260−142 grams.

Each type of category and class is designed to work under certain operating conditions and requires different further processing. To choose the required quality, you need to decide on these conditions so as not to overpay for high quality, which can be successfully replaced by an ordinary category.

Roofing galvanized iron

In modern construction, various types of roofing materials are used to provide reliable protection of the roof from rainwater leakage.

In previous publications, we have already examined the characteristics of roofing felt, modern types of corrugated sheets, as well as various brands of metal tiles.

But a review of roofing materials would be incomplete without mentioning galvanized iron roofing, which is widely used in individual suburban construction.

A galvanized roof looks neat and is capable of reliably protecting the building from atmospheric moisture for many years. Snow practically does not stay on a galvanized pitched roof, which allows you to reduce the cross-section of the elements of the rafter system and save on the purchase of materials for construction.

Characteristics of galvanized iron

Galvanized iron produced by industry must comply with GOST 14918-80. Galvanized sheet steel according to its purpose is divided into groups: For cold stamping - KhSh; For cold profiling - KhP; For painting - PC; General purpose - OH.

According to the uniformity of the thickness of the zinc coating, galvanization can be: With normal thickness variation - NR; With reduced thickness variation - UR.

Sheet thickness can range from 0.5 mm to 2.5 mm.

The thickness of the coating with zinc grades Ts0 and Ts1, depending on the class, can be:

Thickness class Weight of 1 m2 of coating layer applied on both sides, g Coating thickness, microns
P (increased) St. 570 to 855 incl. Over 40 to 60 inclusive.
1 »   258    »   570     » »   18   »   40     »
2 From 142.5 "258" From 10 » 18 »

For galvanized steel of groups XSh, HP and OH, minor sagging, grains of zinc crystals, local roughness and light or matte spots are allowed. Violation of the integrity of the zinc coating is unacceptable, as this will lead to corrosion and destruction of the steel.

Galvanized iron has high strength and can withstand significant snow and wind loads without destruction. Excellent resistance to solar radiation and precipitation.

Such popular building materials as metal tiles and corrugated sheets are stamped from galvanized steel.

Dimensions of galvanized iron sheet

In accordance with GOST 14918-80, galvanized iron is produced in widths from 750 mm to 1800 mm.

In accordance with GOST 19904-90, cold-rolled sheets for subsequent zinc coating can have the following dimensions:

Size name Range of sizes
Sheet thickness 0,35; 0,40; 0,45; 0,50; 0,55; 0,60; 0,65; 0,70; 0,75; 0,80; 0,90; 1,00; 1,10; 1.20; 1,30; 1,40; 1,50; 1,60; 1,70; 1,80; 2,00; 2,20; 2,50; 2,80; 3,00; 3,20; 3,50; 3,80; 3,90; 4,00; 4,20; 4,50; 4,80; 5,00

As you can see, the range of galvanized iron sheets is very diverse, so you should choose based on the size of the roof to be galvanized, the possibility of delivery, unloading and installation.

Most often in individual construction, galvanized iron sheets with dimensions of 1000 mm by 2000 mm, thickness of 0.55 mm and 1250 mm by 2500 mm are used.

Weight of galvanized sheet

The guest does not regulate the weight of each individual sheet of galvanized steel. But, if you need to calculate the weight of the roof or the weight of the sheets to select a vehicle for transporting them, then based on the specific gravity of steel 7.8 g/cm3, you can approximately use the following table:

Weight of galvanized sheet - calculation rules, characteristics and dimensions

Galvanized steel sheet has a wide range of applications, and this applies to both industrial and domestic construction work. Galvanization can withstand considerable load and deformation. They are very easy to stamp, roll, stretch and bend.

Galvanized steel sheets are used in the construction of buildings for a wide variety of purposes; in addition, they are used for cladding walls, constructing ventilated facades, and producing additional structural elements.

They are ideal for roofing and decorative elements. They are often used even in the manufacture of household appliances.

Due to its low weight, the material does not place serious additional load on the foundation and walls. In addition, this type of material can be used in work where the most serious requirements for product quality are imposed.

Material characteristics

Galvanized sheet is produced by rolling steel with the addition of zinc, the latter covering the product on all sides. Due to this, the development of corrosion processes formed during the interaction of iron with oxygen contained in the air is prevented.

On sale you can find material that is coated with zinc on only one side. This is required in order to subsequently send the sheets for further processing, which may include the following:

  1. Hood;
  2. Bending;
  3. cutting;
  4. Profiling and so on.

On sale you can find several types of galvanized steel sheets - corrugated, smooth, made in the form of corrugated sheets.

During the processing of the product, all its useful technical characteristics are preserved:

  • Mechanical strength;
  • Flexibility;
  • Resistance to corrosion processes;
  • Ability to post-process.

To obtain such material, high-quality sheet steel obtained through the cold rolling process is used. Zinc is applied using galvanic technology or hot-dip galvanizing.

The galvanic application method consumes a significantly greater amount of energy compared to hot-dip galvanizing. As a result, it is much more efficient to pass a sheet of steel through molten zinc. The coating can be uniform or patterned. It is worth noting that zinc coating can have different colors and textures. The service life of the material is several decades.

Zinc is applied using galvanic technology or hot-dip galvanizing

Dimensions

According to the current state standard 14918-80, the width of the sheets can be from 75 to 180 cm. Another state standard 19904-90 says that galvanized rolled steel can have dimensions from 850 to 3500 mm in length and from 750 to 5000 mm in width.

However, using sheets that are too large or too small is usually not very convenient. The most popular are 1000x2000 mm or 1250x2500 mm and up to 1 mm thick.

Such products do not weigh too much, and also do not take up much space, which makes their transportation very convenient, even on the roof of a car, which can easily carry up to 30 galvanized sheets of medium thickness.

The range of materials in terms of their main indicators is quite large, so before choosing, you should decide what size sheet will be most suitable for carrying out certain work.

You should be especially careful when creating a roofing covering, since a large number of factors must be taken into account:

  1. Roof dimensions;
  2. Possibility of delivery of sheets of certain sizes;
  3. Technological methods for lifting to the roof;
  4. Unloading methods and many other nuances.

As a rule, when building private houses or country cottages, standard sheets are used , the dimensions of which are 1 by 2 meters with a thickness of 0.55 mm. Instead, sometimes they take material 1250 mm by 2500 mm.

Weight

Not a single state standard strictly stipulates the weight of one galvanized sheet. However, this indicator is often very important, especially when you need to find out whether the vehicle can withstand the load. To calculate the mass of one sheet, you can use an indicator such as the specific gravity of the material, which is approximately 7.8 g per cubic centimeter.

Approximate weights in kilograms are given in the following table:

Size, mm Thickness, mm
0,5 0,55 0,6 0,7 0,8 0,9 1 1,1 1,2 1,3
1000x2000 7,8 8,58 9,36 10,9 12,5 14 15,6 17,2 18,7 20,3
1250x2500 12,2 13,4 14,6 17,1 19,5 21,9 24,4 26,8 29,3 31,7
Size, mm Thickness, mm
1,4 1,5 1,6 1,7 1,8 2
1000x2000 20,3 21,8 23,4 25 26,5 28,1
1250x2500 31,7 34,1 36,6 39,0 41,4 43,9

It is worth noting that the cost of one galvanized sheet will directly depend on its thickness, size and, accordingly, weight. The heavier the sheet, the more money you will have to pay for it.

Rules for calculating weight

You can calculate the mass of one sheet using an ordinary calculator if you know certain rules. In particular, the weight is calculated by area. This method is suitable for metal of any thickness.

In order to determine this indicator, it is necessary to multiply the length, thickness and width of the material, and all indicators must be converted into meters. The resulting number is further multiplied by 7.65 kg/dm3 - this number indicates the density of the steel sheet.

As a result, a certain number will be obtained, which will indicate the mass in kilograms. It is multiplied by the number of sheets in the bundle, after which the information obtained is compared with the carrying capacity of the vehicle.

It should be noted that the mass of galvanized steel will practically not differ from ferrous metal, because the thickness of the zinc coating is minimal and is within a few micrometers.

Many virtual resources have at their disposal an application such as a metal calculator, with which you can calculate the mass of different grades of steel, including galvanized.

Blitz tips

  • Galvanization is produced for general needs, for the production of corrugated sheets , for subsequent cold stamping or for applying paints and varnishes;
  • This material can be used in the most severe climate conditions, including in the north. The main thing here is that it is of high quality, in which case it will be able to withstand even the most severe loads;
  • Recently, polymer coatings have been applied to steel over galvanization, which can significantly increase the service life of such materials , and the thickness of the product does not increase significantly, nor does the weight;
  • It is worth noting that not every paint and varnish product is suitable for application to a sheet of galvanized steel, which has a marking that says what kind of paint is allowed to be applied to the surface. As a rule, these are finishing enamels (this group includes polyvinylidene fluoride, polyurethane, polyester and other types of enamel), primers; protective epoxy enamel or polyvinyl chloride plastisol.
