How to store solder paste

Application of solder pastes

These instructions establish the procedure for working with lead-containing solder pastes (from Multicore Solders (England, Koki (Japan), Union Soltek (USA), Onyx (Russia)) containing flux that does not require cleaning after reflow.

The instructions apply to workshop workers performing the surface mounting process, engineers managing the process, and are mandatory for workers performing screen printing operations.

The instructions were developed in accordance with OST 4GO.033.200-78 “Solders and fluxes for soldering”; OST 4GO.091.315-80 “Assembly and installation works. Safety requirements"; recommendations of solder paste manufacturers.

  Safety precautions

Surface mount technology using lead-containing solder pastes is safe when working on equipment and workplaces equipped with local exhaust ventilation. You should work in protective clothing, protective gloves of the “Multex” type with nitrile coating (code PER 305 according to catalog f.

TRACT), use rubber technical gloves when washing the stencil and squeegees. Skin contact with the paste may increase the reactive sensitivity of the skin and cause an allergic reaction to the skin. If the paste gets on your skin, wash it with plenty of soap and water.

You should also avoid inhaling flux vapors released during soldering; it is prohibited to work with the furnace casing open during soldering.

Technical data

Solder pastes are designed for surface mounting technology of electronic components on the surface of a printed circuit board: soldering using the solder paste reflow method.

Solder pastes CR 32, CR 36, MP 218 are manufactured by the English company Multicore Solders, SS 48-M 1000-2, SS 48-M955 - by the Japanese company KOKI, SM833 G4 (A) - by the American company Union Soltek, F10SN62-90M3 - by the Russian company Onyx .

Solder pastes are a mechanical mixture of three main constituent substances: powdered alloy-solder, flux (activator) and binding material (organic fillers).

 a) The basis of solder paste is powdered solder made from lead-tin or lead-free (tin-silver-copper) alloy:

Alloy designation according to international standard J-STD-006 Solder composition
Sn 62 Sn62/Pb36/Ag2 (tin 62% - lead 36% - silver 2%)
Sn 63 Sn63/Pb37 (tin 63%-lead 37%)
Sac Sn(95.5-96.5)/Ag(3-3.8)/Cu(0.5-0.7) (tin-silver-copper)

Powdered solder is finely dispersed particles of an alloy of spherical shape, the diameters of the particles are measured in microns.

    b) The flux in the solder paste performs the following functions:

  • forms a homogeneous structure with solder;
  • helps maintain the shape of paste prints;
  • provides adhesive properties of the paste for fixing components after their installation;
  • removes oxides from surfaces to be soldered and from metal particles of solder;
  • creates a protective film to prevent re-oxidation during the soldering process;
  • promotes self-centering of components on the board pads during the soldering process; - promotes heat transfer during soldering

Storage

Store solder paste in unopened original packaging in the refrigerator at a temperature of +(2÷10)°C, which in most cases doubles its shelf life.

The shelf life is indicated on each package in the form of production date and expiration date.

Note 1.

On jars of F10 SN62-90M3 paste only the expiration date is indicated; the production date is given in the supplier’s accompanying documents for the batch of packages.

If you find paste with an expired shelf life, isolate the jar with a label for non-conforming products, inform the foreman and the head of the workshop's technological bureau.

The use of solder paste with an expired shelf life is allowed only after testing has been carried out by technologists. After determining the shelf life of the paste, the original packaging must bear the inscription: “The shelf life has been extended until.”

The inscription must be certified by the signature of the workshop technologist or the head of the technological bureau.

Solder paste should not be stored in the refrigerator with food or drinks.

Note 2.

Solder pastes are particularly sensitive to heat and humidity, the effects of which can significantly affect the properties and shelf life of the paste.

Some delamination of the solder paste, when a small amount of flux appears on the surface of the solder paste, is normal for solder paste.

But as a result of exposure to excess heat, the delamination of the paste increases sharply, leading to a change in its properties and, consequently, defects in application and melting. An external sign of this phenomenon can be a significant amount of flux released on the surface of the paste.

Temperatures above 30°C may cause chemical decomposition of the paste.

Thus, a significant layer of liquid flux on the surface of the paste indicates a violation of the conditions of transportation, storage, and use.

Directions for use

  1. When preparing solder paste for use, remove it from the refrigerator and allow it to warm up naturally to room temperature.

How to solder with solder paste

The issue of soldering polypropylene pipes today is acute for every owner of his apartment. After all, everyone, without exception, wants high-quality fastening of pipes, since this directly depends on:

  • service life of the plumbing or heating system,
  • the need for repair costs.

Therefore, many are interested in how to properly solder pipes in order to avoid troubles in the future. To solder polypropylene pipes, you need, of course, a special soldering iron. But what to do if there is no such tool in the house? The answer is simple: use available materials and tools. For example, a gas burner.

Undoubtedly, every home should have a gas burner. But if it is not there, when choosing this tool you should take into account its main parameters:

  • gas used;
  • cylinder connection.

This soldering method is suitable not only for small-diameter pipes, but also for soldering large-diameter pipes. Using a gas torch, you can independently repair or install a heating system in a short period of time.
Soldering requires:

  • accuracy,
  • attentiveness,
  • commitment to quality,
  • preparation for the main work.

Polypropylene pipe: soldering instructions

Let's consider step by step how to efficiently solder pipes: Step 1. Select pipes of a suitable diameter. Please note: newly purchased pipes must match the old ones in diameter. This will help avoid problems during connection. Step 2. Having measured, cut off the required section of pipe.

Do not forget to add an additional 25 millimeters, which will subsequently remain fused into the fitting. Step 3. Heat the pipe and fitting using a torch. This must be done at the same time. Step 4. After this, the parts need to be connected and held for a while, waiting for them to cool.

Please note: Before installing the pipes, it is necessary to draw up a detailed diagram according to which they will be connected. It is necessary to mark the installation locations of rotary angles, tees and taps.

Consider tips and recommendations that will help you get the job done efficiently:

  • It is recommended to purchase connecting parts and pipes from predominantly one manufacturer. This is an important point, since each manufacturer has its own technology for manufacturing these elements. This means that the melting temperature of the parts may vary, which is not suitable for a monolithic structure.
  • Before the main work, the parts must be cleaned and degreased, which will avoid compromising the quality of the connection.
  • Practice first on sections of pipe so that you know what effort is required to obtain the expected result. Please note: the pipe inserted into the fitting must not be rotated under any circumstances, this will compromise the strength of the connection, since the surfaces of the parts will gather in waves.
  • If you choose quality, don't skimp! Good products will last longer, which will save you money in the future.
  • If the room temperature is below +5°C, there is no need to take risks and start work, because its effectiveness is significantly reduced. The connections in this case will be fragile, and the connecting parts will require additional heating. And this is fraught with unnecessary melting and deformation of elements.

Soldering wires: how to solder if you don’t have a soldering iron?

Surely many have encountered the need to connect two wires, but do not have a soldering iron at hand.
All that remains is to rely on the ingenuity of contemporaries, who offer easy soldering methods that everyone can master. The following materials are offered on the modern market:

  • Solder paste;
  • Soldering tape.

Soldering without a soldering iron using paste

Solder paste is a mechanical mixture of flux, solder powder and lubricant, that is, a binder.

THIS IS INTERESTING:  How much does one 3 mm electrode weigh?

Manufacturers of solder pastes practice making them based on silver, which makes it possible to use this mixture for soldering different types of nickel, steel, and copper alloys.

Requirements for pastes

Solder paste should:

  • exfoliate very quickly, but do not oxidize;
  • be viscous (which is very important!) and maintain deformation;
  • have adhesive properties;
  • washable in ordinary solvents;
  • do not flow beyond the boundaries of the applied layer;
  • do not leave indelible residues after application;
  • do not affect the technical properties of the board.

  Why do you need a soldering station?

Soldering steps

Step 1. The primary task is to prepare the wires. We clean the surface of the wire by using a utility knife or wire cutters. Step 2. Twist the wires. Step 3. Carefully coat the soldering area with soldering paste. You need to apply drops of paste evenly over the entire surface of the wire. Step 4. Warm up the application area.

You can use a regular lighter for this. After heating, the paste will form a strong solder. Step 5. We put a heat-shrinkable tube on the wire, which we also treat with a flame so that it is evenly distributed over the surface of the wire.

Please note: This soldering method is primarily suitable for fastening small-diameter wires, such as headphone wires.

Solder paste in water supply systems

Surprisingly, solder pastes are applicable in water supply. These substances have special requirements:

  • Silver or copper is added to the solder, and this increases the melting point. This makes the alloy mechanically strong and durable.
  • Flux or solder is not allowed to contain toxic substances, so it does not contain lead or any toxic metals.
  • The flux should be easily washed off with water and in no case cause corrosion.

Soldering using soldering tape

Soldering tape is a material used for installing electrical wiring, repairing or replacing it, in domestic and field conditions, as well as in the automotive industry.
Let's look at the soldering process using solder tape step by step: Step 1. You need to remove the insulation from the wire, that is, strip it with wire cutters. Step 2. Twist the wires, and then wrap the twist with solder tape.

After removing the protective film, apply the side with flux to the surface of the wire and crimp it. Step 3. Heat the winding area with a match or lighter until the solder completely spreads over the surface of the wire. Step 4. Wait until it cools, then remove excess flux.

As you can see, you don’t have to rush out and buy a soldering iron to solder wires; you can use the methods described above.

This will save both time and money.

How to make “golden paste” from turmeric (and in general, everything about turmeric)

Now get ready for a lot of terms - without them, the material about turmeric will be incomplete.

Turmeric contains several active ingredients - curcumin and curcuminoids (a group of strong antioxidants). These substances have a general healing effect, but it is curcumin that stops the growth of malignant tumors, preventing the formation of new ones. It also gives the seasoning a bright orange-yellow color.

Now let’s figure out what diseases turmeric can help with.

  • 1Gastrointestinal tract

Inflammatory processes, Helicobacter pylori, ulcers, silent reflux, flatulence and diarrhea.

In the last two cases, it is enough to dissolve a spoon of turmeric in water. For other medical conditions, consult your doctor or naturopath.

  • 2Musculoskeletal system

Arthrosis, bursitis, osteoporosis and almost any type of arthritis, including rheumatoid, infectious, psoriatic and juvenile.

Turmeric suppresses the metabolic activity of chondrocytes (bone cells) and prevents the destruction of cartilage tissue, which reduces inflammation in the joints and alleviates the above diseases.

  • 3Skin diseases and external injuries

Any injuries and superficial wounds, psoriasis, furunculosis and fungal infections.

For sprains and bruises, a compress with turmeric and honey will help. For ulcers, ulcers or abscesses - a compress with turmeric and ghee.

Gingivitis, bleeding gums, periodontitis, lichen planus of the oral mucosa.

Diabetic nephropathy, chronic renal failure, ischemia, reperfusion, drug-induced renal dysfunction, renal inflammation.

  • 6Women's and men's health

Uterine fibroids, uterine fibroids (curcumin inhibits the development of this disease), polycystic ovary syndrome, infertility caused by smoking, excessive alcohol intake or poor environment.

  • 7Nervous system and brain

Bipolar disorder, depressive conditions, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease (curcumin inhibits the formation of a protein that causes this disease to progress), migraines and exhaustion.

Asthma and any respiratory diseases.

  • 9The cardiovascular system

Turmeric improves blood flow and prevents platelet formation. It also protects red blood cells from destruction, maintains hemoglobin levels and protects against anemic conditions.

We deliberately did not go into details of the treatment of each disease - if you are not healthy, be sure to consult your doctor and remind him about turmeric.

But if you are healthy, then taking turmeric daily will help prevent you from the above diseases, as well as from some types of cancer - breast, colon and rectum, prostate, skin, brain. Turmeric also improves metabolism, balances cholesterol levels and promotes weight loss - some advantages.

Golden paste recipe

Turmeric works best when used as a golden paste. To prepare it, you need four ingredients: turmeric powder (or roots), healthy fats, black pepper, and heat.

Curcumin is a fat-soluble substance, so it is better absorbed with healthy fats. Unrefined, cold-pressed oils such as olive, coconut or flaxseed are suitable.

Black pepper contains the enzyme piperine, which slows down the removal of curcumin from the body. One study on turmeric found that piperine increased the absorption of curcumin by 2000%.

It is generally accepted that the benefits are always greater in the raw product, but there is evidence that heating curcumin makes it 12 times more accessible. Additionally, heating turmeric releases additional antioxidants that the body cannot recognize in its raw form.

And now the recipe itself. Its author is Australian Dawg English, one of the best experts practicing turmeric treatment.

water 250 ml (glass)
unrefined oil 70 ml
turmeric powder 60 g
black pepper 2–3 tsp.
  • 1 Pour water into a stainless steel pan and add turmeric to it.
  • 2 Stirring constantly, cook the mixture over low heat for 7-10 minutes until you get a thick paste.
  • The consistency of the paste depends only on your preferences. You can make it more liquid by adding a little water.
  • 3 Let the pasta cool slightly and add pepper and oil. Mix everything thoroughly and let cool completely.
  • 4 Place the finished pasta into a glass container that can be tightly sealed.

How to take turmeric

You can add “golden paste” to tea, milk or smoothies, or consume it in its pure form.

The daily therapeutic dose is 8 grams, which is best divided into three doses. There is no point in eating 8 grams at one time - the body will not be able to absorb them and will remove them from the body.

Contraindications

Turmeric helps with many diseases and disorders. It can be used even for children over two years old and elderly people, but there are also contraindications.

Acute cholelithiasis, pancreatitis, hepatitis, gastritis with high acidity, kidney stones. There is evidence that turmeric increases the tone of the uterus, so it is better not to use it during pregnancy. And stop taking curcumin two weeks before any surgery.

Allergies to turmeric are rare. But if you still experience it, look for other useful supplements.

  • Compatibility with other drugs

When taking blood thinning medications (aspirin, clopidogrel, warfarin and others), turmeric can be included in the diet, but pure curcumin supplements are prohibited, as they increase the risk of bleeding.

Just remember that turmeric is a dietary supplement and does not exempt you from following the basic rules of a healthy diet.
