The dimensions of the welding station are determined by the volume of work performed by the welder. But the height of the cabin is usually at least 2 m. The floor, ceiling and walls are made of non-combustible materials. These are safety requirements.

But, like at a stationary post, a grounding system is also organized at a portable one. Some portable welding booths have protective panels on all sides. But there is one requirement for its arrangement - there must always be a gap of 50 cm between the panels. This will be a kind of ventilation system for the welding station.

As for the equipment of a welding station for manual arc welding or gas welding (meaning mobile type), in addition to the workbench and chair, cabinets are installed in which tools and consumables for carrying out the work are stored.

There are mobile welding stations that are mounted on automobile chassis. This is a truly mobile object. Up to three welded units are usually placed in its design. Such a machine is driven to the site, and three welders work on it at once.

A large machine structure is sheathed with thin sheet iron, thereby complying with safety requirements. One long workbench is installed inside, there are also cabinets, a furnace for calcining electrodes, and boxes for storing cables and hoses. In general, this is a mobile unit with which you can perform a large amount of work.

Such welding stations for gas welding or electric welding can be located not on automobile chassis, but on skids. In the upper part of its frame, lugs are made in the corners, by which the entire structure is lifted using a crane and transferred to the required area. Or they load it onto a car and transport it to other sites.

Since there are several types of welding, the workplace will have to be equipped differently. The only things that remain unchanged are grounding, safety requirements for the welding station, lighting and auxiliary devices for the convenience of the welder.

  • Welding with non-consumable electrodes in shielding gases requires organizing a place for gas cylinders or a compressor.
  • Mechanized welding or cutting of metals is an additional unit for supplying consumables or cutting tools.
  • Using three-phase voltage means installing a contactor of the required size.
  • The workplace of an electric welder operating on alternating current is additionally equipped with an oscillator. Its purpose is to stabilize the electric arc.

Equipping a place where a gas or electric welder works is a serious and responsible matter. The basic and important rule here is to ensure maximum safety during welding work. Therefore, systems such as ventilation, grounding and lighting receive increased attention.

For the convenience of storing electrodes, auxiliary tools, special equipment, and other available tools, the gas welding station is equipped with special cabinets. In this case, a ventilation system is not provided, since the work is carried out in the open air, and the harmful gases released during the work quickly dissipate on their own.

Basic requirements for organizing a mobile post

  • Lighting should minimize the load on the worker’s visual organs resulting from the light flux.
  • Lighting fixtures are most often placed above the desktop tabletop, next to it.
  • The gas welding station must have a grounding device.
  • For high-quality exhaust ventilation in a natural way, gaps of about half a meter are left between the floor base and the walls.

Due to the fact that there are different types of welding, workplaces are somewhat different in arrangement. General requirements for workplaces are the presence of a grounding device, compliance with safety requirements, lighting, and additional working tools.

Separate requirements for different workplaces

  • In the case of using alternating current welding, the welding site is additionally organized with an oscillator, which is necessary to stabilize the welding arc.
  • When using mechanized welding or cutting metal products, it is necessary to have a cutting tool feeder (consumables).
  • If three-phase voltage is used, then a contactor of a certain size will be needed.
  • When performing welding work in a protective gas environment using non-consumable electrodes, the oxygen-propane welding station must be equipped with space for placing a compressor (gas cylinders).

A professional welder’s table is the place where joining work is performed. Therefore, the lid for the welding table is made of steel and has a thickness of about 2.5 centimeters. For any post, a magnetic starter and a switch for turning on/off the operating current are provided.
