If you happen to have a longitudinal type of saw, then its sharpening angle is smaller – 10-15 degrees.
Regarding the sharpening angle, I can also say the following - the larger it is, the higher the cutting performance of soft wood. If the angle is smaller, it is easier to cut hard (or frozen) wood, since the move becomes smoother and vibrations are reduced. Therefore, manufacturers of saw consumables produce a wide range of chains for different types of wood.
The sequence is something like this:
- We place a holder with a round file installed in it on the chain. We place the arrows on the bar parallel to the tire. Checking the sharpening angles;
- Upper blade - approximately 30 degrees, as I explained above, it can be in the range from 25 to 25, but no more. In fact, professionals recommend an even narrower range - 28-32 degrees. If you can, stick to it for all brands of chain;
- We sharpen, with movements only forward, easily and measuredly. Each subsequent tooth is sharpened the same number of times.
My recommendation is to first sharpen the teeth in one direction, then move to the other side. It's much more convenient this way. All of them must be sharpened to the size of the tooth that is the smallest (the most worn).
