The combined action of these two substances can speed up the cleaning process. They are mixed in equal proportions and then used in the same way as a separate ingredient. But the period of stay of the rusty object in this solution should not exceed 2 hours. Repeat several times if necessary.

For greater effectiveness, you can add a little table salt to the solution of vinegar and citric acid.

Soda

With its help you can remove rust from small items, coins and metal jewelry. Use diluted to thick sour cream. The resulting paste is applied to contaminated areas for 15–30 minutes. Then the remaining soda and loosened rust particles must be removed with a soft brush or sponge.

The diluted powder of this product is suitable both for wiping away light traces of rust and for cleaning heavily soiled surfaces. In the second case, the pillar part is immersed in the prepared solution for several hours.

For minor rust stains, you can use the juice of freshly squeezed lemon or simply wash the corroded area with half a fruit.

Potato

It contains oxalic acid and is therefore also suitable for removing rust. Its faint traces are wiped with a cut of half a tuber for 1–2 minutes. If the contamination is severe, you can sprinkle it with salt, cover it with thinly sliced ​​raw potatoes and leave for 15-20 minutes.

Composition with lactic acid

Delicate items and jewelry can be cleaned with a mixture prepared from 1 part of this substance with 2 parts of petroleum jelly. Using a brush, apply to damaged areas. The resulting loose layer is cleaned off with a toothbrush.

How to prevent rust

It is unrealistic to protect exposed metal from contact with air and moisture, therefore its surface must be covered with protective layers. This can be any paint applied to a previously primed surface.

Along with the rust remover, you can purchase special sealants, i.e., compounds that reliably block the access of moisture and oxygen to the metal they protect.

WD-40 products include a silicone-based lubricant that is coated on parts to create an impervious layer after rust has been removed.

It is recommended to protect threaded connections by dipping them in graphite liquid lubricant before screwing.

Parts and tools intended for long-term storage are covered with a thick layer of Vaseline or grease.
