Capabilities and features of a laser engraver: for wood, plastic, metal
A laser engraver is a multifunctional high-tech equipment designed to create unique decorated products.
Working as a laser engraver is a very interesting activity that allows you to create original drawings, fancy patterns, complex ornaments and inscriptions on the surface of various materials. With the help of such equipment you can decorate metal, wood and plastic things.
But in order for products created on a laser machine to be beautiful and of high quality, you need to know some features of the procedure.
What problems can be solved using a laser engraver?
Decorating with a laser engraver is the most popular type of engraving, the principle of which is to burn the surface with a focused laser beam. Most modern models of this device are controlled using external PCs equipped with special software. The program included with the engraver performs a number of tasks:
- converts images stored on a computer into vector format;
- transmits information about the translated image to the controller;
- ensures the coordinated functioning of all structural elements.
The engraver is intended for decorating products made from different materials. With its help, you can display a wide variety of designs, patterns and inscriptions on the surface of wood, metal, glass, leather and so on. Using engraving, you can create the following elements:
- logos;
- brand marks;
- signs;
- gift souvenirs;
- seals, stamps;
- awards, souvenirs;
- paintings.
The device not only transfers an image from a computer to the surface of an object, but also provides polishing, grinding and cutting of materials. You can also use it to drill holes and create 3D elements.
Features of wood processing
Laser engraving on wood is one of the most popular types of decoration, in which a high-quality image is applied to a wooden surface by laser burning. Today the following products are most often processed:
- wooden souvenirs;
- decorative interior elements;
- portraits, paintings and photos;
- signs, signs;
- stands;
- kitchen products.
Laser engraving is widely used in the furniture industry. Decorating wood allows you to get a lasting relief image, displaying even the smallest details and lines. Depending on the engraving mode, you can get an image from light yellow to black.
Features of plastic processing
Plastic is a very popular material from which many different items are made today. Using engraving, plastic products can be given a unique design. Decoration using a laser engraver is characterized by exceptional precision (up to 0.1 mm), thanks to which even complex contours and delicate shapes can be realized.
The most suitable material for this is two-layer plastic. Often patterns and inscriptions are applied to cast acrylic, as well as transparent or colored plexiglass. Using this device, you can produce a variety of signs, stickers, labels, badges and stands.
The principle of metal processing is the heating and evaporation of material particles by a high-energy beam. Due to the colossal heat dissipation through the metal, a conventional laser beam is not able to melt the material properly. Therefore, to decorate metal products you need a beam with a power of several hundred or even thousands of watts. Metal laser engraver is used in the following areas:
- mechanical engineering;
- microsimulation;
- furniture, textile industry;
- artistic metal processing;
- medicine;
- Advertising activity.
Using engraving, you can create original products of various types: lighters, rings and pendants, medals, flasks, knives and much more.
Laser engraving is a great combination of precision, speed, versatility and durability. With its help, you can create an unforgettable gift for a loved one or add some zest to your image or interior.

Errors in engraving. How can a client understand what should be better?
Have you made mistakes? Work errors due to ignorance or inability. There is hardly anyone who has never made them. Unfortunately. But the truth is that every mistake is a path to knowledge, of course, if you have the desire to go to it.
And now the interesting thing - we tried to collect some mistakes and their photos in engraving and show how not to do it.
People often come to us when they have already done a test engraving and it didn’t work out. Or when several companies refused to work. Or when they say it is impossible.
This happens for several reasons, in short, two main ones:
- Lack of understanding of the physics of the process, inexperience of the engraver
- Limited functionality of the equipment
And it is misunderstanding that leads to errors when working with a good, expensive laser.
So - a few photos - all photos are real.
Most of the photos were taken at our central office before the holidays.
Branding - or how not to engrave silicone and rubber
Imagine you have a holiday next week, corporate gifts have been ordered. A contractor has been found for laser engraving of these very corporate gifts. And so, they give you a sample on which the engraving looks like this.
The problem is that the back surface of the Power Bank was rubberized. She was simply melted. We left the Power Bank for testing.
To be honest, often only our vast work experience allows us to avoid such situations. 12 years ago, when we started engraving, we were the only ones. And we sat on each work for many hours - there was no one to ask, there was no alternative to us. And we worked until the bitter end, trying out all possible settings.
These are tests - sometimes you have to sit and think, like here (in the center is the engraving with which we were given the sample :)). The work was completed on time and the clients were satisfied.
Option two – engraving not deep enough
They don't want to re-engrave the keyboards. It’s a lot of hassle – it’s difficult to put one letter on top of another on the keys. It is difficult to choose the right power so as not to burn the plastic, but to draw the letter.
This is not always possible, and it almost never works out perfectly.
Shallow engraving looks like this. By the way, this particular laptop was purchased at Rozetka already with the Letter engraved in the upper right corner, if that. Take a closer look.
After engraving, one half looks something like this (the left half, up to the letters n, r, t, was re-engraved, while the right half is still waiting). They took a special photo to show the difference.
But it’s much worse if the plastic is burned through - alas, nothing can be done about it. The material is destroyed by high temperatures, it will not be possible to fix it and do the work more accurately. Just replace the buttons with new ones.
Option three - not exactly an engraving error, but
Yes, this is not a mistake - just not very high-quality engraving.
There may be several reasons:
- This engraving is done faster, this allows you to reduce the cost of work (we decided for ourselves that reducing the price at the expense of quality is unacceptable)
- inexperienced engraver - in order to understand how to do this as well as possible, experience is needed
- equipment not suitable for engraving on this material. Lasers that engrave wood and glass are not suitable for metal. A different wavelength is needed.
This is not visible until you put two identical pictures together. With high-quality engraving, clear and legible letters can be very small. We mark instruments with letters and numbers starting from 0.3 mm (not cm, but mm). You can see the difference in these photos.
In fact, if quality is not important, such work can happen. When engraving large images and large letters, this is not noticeable. But small inscriptions and images merge.
Have a nice day :).

All about CNC laser engraving machines
A laser engraver ( CNC laser engraving machine ) is a unique and multifunctional equipment, its main tasks are cutting and engraving (marking) of material. The uniqueness of this equipment lies in the variety of materials processed - glass, acrylic, wood, plastic, veneer, fabric, leather, rubber, cardboard, artificial stone and much more.
Laser engraving machines appeared about 25 years ago and immediately became widespread, quickly expanding beyond their main area of application - woodworking. Powerful and accurate , safe and high-speed equipment will be indispensable in any production.
What is CNC?
CNC - numerical control - in other words, this type of equipment has software installed that simplifies the process of working on it. The operator’s task is to select a design for engraving, set its dimensions and specify the material for work - then the machine will begin engraving according to the specified parameters.
Why laser?
It’s not for nothing that the expression “laser” has come to mean something powerful and precise. Laser is the energy of the light flux, a living example of the accuracy of radiation.
The combination of laser, optics, computer and automated control in one machine guarantees high processing results and increases production efficiency compared to the use of mechanical technology.
Here are a few reasons why you should choose a laser engraver:
- Possibility to use material of any hardness.
- Maximum precision when cutting and engraving.
- The closed housing ensures complete safety for the operator.
- Modern and clear interface.
- Almost waste-free production.
How to choose a suitable laser engraving machine?
There are several configuration options for laser engraving machines ; depending on the task at hand, indicators such as: working surface area, laser and laser tube power may change.
Therefore, you should not rush to choose laser engraving machines ; our company will help you take into account all the nuances when choosing equipment and select the right equipment based on the needs of your production for maximum efficiency and the desired result.
The price of laser equipment depends on technical characteristics, power and performance. Therefore, absolutely everyone can buy a laser machine, both large production and hobbyists.
How is laser engraving applied?
In laser equipment, light from the emitter passes through the lens and acquires final focusing. The generated laser beam has a high energy content that can penetrate any material. Due to its high temperature, the laser beam evaporates the material at the point of contact, leaving on the surface a cavity of the size and depth you need.
To ensure that the laser does not burn through the material being engraved, it is necessary to select its power correctly. Laser engraving is clearly visible on the surface and does not deform over time.
What does a CNC laser engraving machine consist of?
The coordinate table of a laser machine is designed for precise positioning of the focusing element relative to the product. For accurate and smooth movement of moving elements, guides are installed on the frame. The durability of the laser engraving machine and the load on the driving part of the structure depend on their quality. Both toothed belts and ball screws can act as a drive that transmits force from motors to moving parts. The portal moves along rail guides due to a belt drive driven by a microstepping motor. A carriage with a focusing system moves along the portal, which moves due to a belt drive from a microstepping motor mounted on the right side of the portal.
To ensure that laser radiation hits a given point, a system of mirrors is installed on the moving parts of the coordinate table. To prevent the beam energy from dissipating, the mirror is made of a special material and polished with high precision, or coated with a composition that reduces scattering. After the first, stationary mirror has reflected the beam, it hits the second, movable mirror, having reflected the beam, it again changes its trajectory at a right angle, directing the laser beam to the third mirror, which reflects it into the focusing element - the lens. Depending on the power of the emitting element, the diameter of the beam at its exit can reach ten millimeters. The lens focuses the beam energy into a spot just two tenths of a millimeter in diameter. All the energy emitted by the laser tube ends up in this tiny spot.
Slat table | It is liftable (in the standard configuration of the machine it is raised manually, in others it is automated), there are windows in front and behind the machine for drawing material (through table) - please note that not all machines have a through table. Types of work tables: Aluminum slats are a priority table for laser cutting and engraving. The material can be placed on fewer slats, which will reduce the contact of the material on the back side and minimize marks that will be reflected from the slats. Lamels, unlike a honeycomb table, leave much smaller marks on the back of the material. |
Honeycomb table | The honeycomb table is used for cutting small items, woven and other materials. (optional) |
Pin table | The needle table is used as additional equipment as a support (contact) surface for through cutting of sheet materials. It consists of a base and thin pointed metal rods (needles) protruding from it. (optional) |
The laser tube is a glass flask with 3 internal cavities. The internal and external cavities are filled with a mixture of CO2-N2-He gases, the middle cavity is intended for cooling the laser tube with water. At the edges of the internal cavity there are electrodes (Anode and Cathode), to which electric current is supplied from a high voltage unit. When current is applied, laser emission occurs.
This is the power supply for the laser tube, which creates a high voltage charge that allows the laser tube to generate a laser beam. Allows the ignition mechanism to operate. It raises the voltage until discharge begins (that is, until current flows from the cathode to the anode). The main characteristics of the current transmitted from the high voltage block to the laser tube are voltage and current. Voltage (kV) is the work of transferring electric charge from the cathode to the anode. Different laser tubes have different required voltage for ignition. Laser tubes have a characteristic “Ignition Voltage” and “Operating Voltage”. “Ignition voltage” is the work that allows you to “connect” the cathode and anode of the laser tube so that current flows from the cathode to the anode. Once the connection is established, the voltage is reduced and the laser tube operates at a reduced voltage, called "Operating Voltage". Current (mA) is the amount of charge transferred in 1 unit of time. Increasing the current increases the amount of charge carried through the laser tube.
Comes complete with any laser machine. Provides ventilation of the cutting area. To obtain a cut surface with a minimum of traces of combustion.
The standard configuration of the machine includes an exhaust fan, an air pump, and corrugated hoses. The corrugated hose is connected to a general exhaust hood to eliminate smoke or goes out the window.
Water cooling system. The standard equipment of the machine includes a water cooling system. The cooling process of a laser lamp is very important, because it protects the lamp from overheating and from rapid failure. The water circulates and removes heat. Water circulation is ensured by a submersible pump included with the machine. It should be noted that next to the machine there should always be a container with distilled water (volume of at least 15 liters), into which the pump, connected via a hose to the laser tube, is immersed.
There is an additional cooling system - Chiller. It extends the service life of the laser engraving machine.
The control system of a laser machine is its brain. It is she who processes the file loaded into her memory, controlling the engines, laser and peripheral devices.
A rotary device is a special mechanism installed on a CNC laser machine, which is designed to rotate workpieces to different angles during processing. The rotating device replaces the turning unit and consists of a cylindrical movable clamp mounted on the frame of the laser machine, and a stop - a centralizer (tailstock) moving on a slide. The rotary axis moves using a stepper motor. |
What materials can a CNC laser engraving machine process and cut?
Paper and cardboard | Plywood | Tree | MDF and chipboard |
Fur | Textile | Leather and leatherette | Acrylic glass |
PAT | Polystyrene | Monolithic polycarbonate | Paronitis |
Rubber | Double-layer laminates, Rowmark | Aluminum, brass | Stone, marble, granite |

Hublot watches: how to distinguish an original from a copy?
The Swiss watch brand Hublot is considered one of the most prestigious and recognizable in the world. Therefore, original Hublot watches cost several thousand dollars. It is completely justified, since the accessories implement innovative technologies, original design ideas, and the most accurate mechanisms.
The Swiss watch brand Hublot is considered one of the most prestigious and recognizable in the world. Therefore, original Hublot watches cost several thousand dollars. It is completely justified, since the accessories implement innovative technologies, original design ideas, and the most accurate mechanisms. Due to the great popularity of the brand, counterfeits of its products began to appear more and more often. We will tell you how to distinguish an original from a copy in this material.
Distinctive features of Hublot watches
Avid watch collectors, watch lovers and devoted fans of the brand will easily recognize Hublot watches among other Swiss accessories. They have the following distinctive features:
- a combination of different styles - the brand loves to experiment with design. Therefore, in most of his models an eclecticism of styles can be traced. For example, the gold case is complemented by a frankly sporty strap;
- steel screws - on most models, these elements are installed around the dial and on the bezel. Some Hublot watches are boltless, making them lighter and more refined;
- Wide functionality - the watch has many features that make it as convenient to use as possible. This includes a lunar calendar, world time, alarm clock, and power reserve indicator;
- recognizable form - the brand's watches are presented in three forms. This is a spectacular “porthole”, an elegant “cushion” and a futuristic shape with a skeletonized design.
All of these features are a true Hublot, with prices ranging from $10,000 to $100,000.
How to distinguish a fake from the original?
You can identify a counterfeit just by the appearance of the watch. The case must have a brand engraving. The product itself is not allowed to have any defects in the form of scratches, abrasions, or chips, unless you are purchasing a watch that has already been used before.
Pay attention to the box that comes with all Hublot watches and its contents. The box is locked with a key and the brand logo is stamped on the lid. Inside there is a special smart card, a warranty card, instructions in several languages, and a brand book. Some models are additionally equipped with keys for replacing structural elements.

Laser engraving on metal
Engraving can be done on almost any metal. It is applied to flat and uneven surfaces. The lines drawn by the laser are clearly visible and easy to read. You can engrave not only text, but also an entire picture.
The appearance of the engraving depends on the characteristics of the metal. Stainless steel and gold are best engraved. To make letters and symbols stand out against the general background, become brighter and clearer, the blackening method is used.
Laser engraving is the best way to engrave metal. Any print will eventually wear off or fade from the metal surface. The engraving will not be erased under any circumstances. She is not afraid of water, sun, frost. The application process occurs virtually without human intervention, which minimizes the possibility of scratches and dents on the product.
Metal engraving process:
- Preparation of the layout. You can make the layout yourself or contact our designers who will help you choose the size and font of the text. If you need a drawing, it must be in vector format or in very high resolution.
- The product is placed on the machine and the program is started.
Then only the laser works, which accurately prints the image on the metal millimeter by millimeter.
- After engraving is completed, if necessary, blackening and rounding of corners on the plates are done. At the end, the engraved area is wiped to remove excess marks and your order is ready.
Considering the indelibility of this application, check your layouts carefully. Since the error cannot be corrected, the only option is to engrave a new product. Any metal is suitable for engraving. However, since each type has different properties, the engraving itself will not look the same.
Engraving on stainless steel will be visually significantly different from engraving on silver.
The most popular types of metals for engraving:
- Silver;
- Gold;
- Aluminum;
- Brass;
- Steel;
- Copper, etc.
If you need engraving on a metal product, our skilled craftsmen will do it quickly and efficiently using modern equipment. Such an application will delight you for many years, whether it is a wedding ring or an information plaque.

Laser engraving - what is it?
Laser engraving makes it possible to turn any item into a unique product. Such items are valued much more than ordinary exhibits.
On the website http://logoprom.com.ua/ you can buy souvenirs that will be a wonderful gift for your friends and relatives. But what is this procedure?
Features of laser engraving
Process technologies make it possible to engrave the item you have chosen. The laser allows you to make the product original and unique, so you can even give such a gift to your boss.
The image, which was applied using this method, is highly resistant to abrasion. This means that the product will serve you for a very long time, maintaining its original appearance.
The engraving process does not imply any negative impact on the material. You can apply the image to different types of products without worrying that it will not be too attractive.
Features of applying images to plastic
In this case, the image is obtained by correcting the color or surface structure of the product. There are several basic engraving options.
Foaming makes it possible to change the structure of the material, because it is exposed to high temperatures. This is similar to the option when plastic, bent several times, becomes lighter.
If you increase the intensity of the radiation, the temperature of the material becomes very high, as a result of which it begins to melt. The surface structure becomes like a groove.
In some cases, the molecules of substances that make up the plastic decompose. As a result, the color of the product changes.
The surface of the image is smooth and beautiful. As a result, you will give a surprise to anyone.
Advantages of laser engraving
You have become familiar with the features of this procedure. Now it’s worth finding out in more detail about the benefits of engraving:
- the entire process is fully automated, so manual work is reduced to a minimum;
- Engraving can be applied to any material, which gives more possibilities for imagination;
- the image retains its original appearance for a long time;
- This is a great gift idea for an important person.
These are the main points that relate to laser engraving on the surface of products. If you choose this option, you will be able to come to the holidays with a worthy gift.
